The University of South Alabama has one of the most comprehensive scholarship programs in Alabama and offers excellent opportunities to entering freshmen. The majority of USA students use a combination of scholarships, grants and loans.

Mitchell-Moulton Scholarship Initiative

Under the Mitchell-Moulton Scholarship Initiative, USA offers several scholarship levels based on standardized test scores, high school GPA and area of study. The University’s largest scholarship programs for academic achievement are:

     • Presidential Scholarships
     • Whiddon Honors Program Scholarships
     • Bay Area Freshman Scholarships
     • Mitchell Scholars Program


Resident tuition rates apply to Alabama students, Mississippi students from George, Greene, Harrison, Jackson, Perry and Stone counties and Florida students from Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. For non-resident scholarship amounts, click on the left option Paying Out-of-State Tuition

Students are encouraged to apply early for all scholarship assistance. Information on each scholarship is provided below:

After acceptance to USA with official documents, 2014 high school graduates will automatically be reviewed for the Presidential Scholarship award (separate application for Presidential Scholarship is NOT required).  A scholarship award letter will be mailed to students awarded a Presidential Scholarship.

Students must major in the Mitchell College of Business.  Preference is given to residents of Mobile or Baldwin counties and the state of Alabama.

  • Be a U. S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Be a 2014 high school graduate
  • Apply for admission to the University of South Alabama
  • Request official ACT or SAT scores be sent directly to the USA Office of Admissions
  • Request official high school transcript be mailed to the USA Office of Admissions directly from the high school showing grades through the junior year
  • Major in the Mitchell College of Business
  • Be admitted to the University of South Alabama by February 1 (senior year of high school)
After acceptance to USA with official documents, 2014 high school grades majoring in the Mitchell College of Business will automatically be reviewed for the Abraham Mitchell Scholarship award (separate application for the Abraham Mitchell Scholarship is NOT required).  A scholarship award letter will be mailed to students awarded an Abraham Mitchell Scholarship.  For more information visit Mitchell Scholars Program

Honors Program Scholarships for 2014 High School Graduates


Honors Scholarship Application Required

The University of South Alabama Honors Program offers a curriculum of interdisciplinary excellence dsigned to stimulate analytical and critical thinking of exceptionally qualified and highly motivated students.  In this effort, the USA Honors Program challenges students with scholarly activities, creative activities, exposes them to cultural enrichment and requires them to engage in community service.

Additional Scholarship Options

  • USA Freshman Leadership Scholarship
    The USA Freshman Leadership Scholarship is a $2000 per year renewable scholarship for a four-year total of $8,000.  The scholarship is for incoming freshmen based on leadership and service commitments during high school.  Priority will be given to students who represent economically and educationally disadvantaged groups or students who have participated in Educational Talent Search, Upward Bound, Stars and Stripes or other developmental/educational programs. Contact the Dean of Students Office at 251/460-6172 for application information.

    Applicant qualifications:
    1) minimum 21 ACT composite score or minimum SAT of 980 (SAT critical reading + math)
    2) minimum 3.0 high school grade point average
    3) demonstrate leadership and/or service throughout high school

  • Madge and Gladys Outlaw Freshman Leadership Scholarship
    Provides four entering freshmen with $2,500 one-year scholarships.
