Academic Status
Academic Bankruptcy

Undergraduate students who are readmitted to USA after an absence of one calendar year or longer have the option to declare academic bankruptcy. This means choosing to count none of their previous USA credits toward completion of degree requirements and the calculation of their GPA. In effect, the student can start academic work at USA over. However, all coursework will remain on the student's record.

 
Note: Financial aid does not consider academic bankruptcy when determining a student's academic progress and eligibility for financial assistance. Students should be referred to Financial Aid for further information.
 
Academic Bankruptcy Policies
Decision must be made at the time of readmission or by the end of the readmit term and approved by the student's dean
Option is not available to student who has earned a bachelor's degree
Decision may be made only once and is irrevocable
The choice of Bulletin is limited to those in effect from the time of declaring bankruptcy onward
Declaring bankruptcy does not affect transfer credit
Only the course work taken after declaring academic bankruptcy counts in the calculation of the GPA for academic honors
