Course Selection
Advising Blocks
It is required by some colleges and recommended by the others that students meet with their academic advisor each semester, or on some regular basis, to discuss their academic plans and upcoming course selections. Two weeks during the Fall and Spring Semesters, as well as one week during the Summer Semester, are designated as "Advising Weeks". However, advising may occur throughout the term.
Individual colleges within the University may have advising blocks. If a student has not been advised within a prescribed time frame, an advising block is added that prevents the student from registering for the next semester. Advising blocks are added and ended by the college.

When a student changes his program/major from one college to another, the new department will end any advising holds placed on the student's record and remove any previous advisors assigned to the student. New advisors will be assigned and, if applicable, a new advising hold will be placed on the student's record.

You should check with your department and college concerning your policy on required advising and advising blocks.
