Technology Computer Access for Advisors   PAWS and Native Banner   All academic advisors, both professional and faculty, have access to PAWS, the Personal Access Web System, but can only see the academic information about the students who are their advisees. To see the academic information about other students would require that the student share his/her PIN code with you.   A limited number of academic advisors may also have access to Native Banner, which consists of the "background" forms that form the foundation for PAWS. Access is determined by the individual's function within the academic unit and authorization to view or update certain information. Questions regarding access should be addressed to your department chair or dean.   The PAWS information page can be accessed in a couple of ways: from the USA home page by clicking on the blue Paw Print at the bottom righthand side, or by directly entering http://www.southalabama.edu/paws/. The information page provides answers to most questions about PAWS.   The main menu of PAWS is at http://paws.southalabama.edu and can be reached from the PAWS information page by clicking on PAWS from the lefthand navigational column or the blue Paw Print at the bottom of the page.   Main menu options include Enter Secure Area and links to General Financial Aid, the Class Schedule, the Course Catalog, the information page for PAWS, and accessing the university-assigned e-mail account. The Enter Secure Area main menu option permits students to access their registration, grades, academic transcript, information, and it permits faculty to access their teaching schedule, class rolls, and to enter final grades.   In the Secure Area, under Faculty Services, Student Menu, you are able to view the student's address, phone number, e-mail address, class schedule, and can register for the student if you have the student's PIN code.   Also, under Faculty Services, Advisor Menu, you are able to view a student's academic transcript as well as the degree evaluation (CAPP compliance report). Select the term and the JAG number of the advisee (and PIN code of a student who is not your advisee), and then you can view this academic information.
