Course Selection
Course Load
To complete a bachelor's degree in four years (eight semesters), students should plan to attempt at least 16 semester hours each term. Most courses are worth 3 semester hours, unless the course has a lab required with it or meets for a longer period of time each term.
Many students work either part-time or full-time, and should adjust their course loads accordingly. Summer Semester is also an optional time for satisfying requirements if a student cannot carry a normal course load during the Fall and Spring Semesters.
Credit Hour Limitations - Students on academic probation are restricted to 13 semester hours per semester. Students admitted into the Developmental Studies Program are restricted to 14 semester hours each term until they have completed all DS requirements. Undergraduate students are limited to 19 semester hours each term, and graduate students are limited to 10 credit hours. Exceptions to these limits may be made with permission of the student's dean and the override is processed by the Registrar's Office.
Full-time/Part-time - Undergraduate students enrolled in 12 or more semester hours are full-time, 6-11 hours = half-time, and 1-5 hours = less than half-time. Graduate students enrolled in 6 or more semester hours are full-time, 3-5 hours = half-time, and 1-2 hours = less than half-time. Note: Scholarship students must take a minimum of 15 semester hours each term.
