FYI:  With little fanfare (his wishes) and many fond farewells Dr. Itaya has officially left the Department and University... thus signaling and end to an era... one the original fab four of the BMD faculty... I alas am the only remaining member... sad but true... Anyway, I hope you all are having HAPPY & HEALTHY PRODUCTIVE lives... KEEP MAKING US PROUD!!! & KEEP IN TOUCH!!
22 July from Rubina Khan (rhk99@aol.com):  After a triumphant return from a tour of India where she was greeted by her adoring family and fans, Rubina e-mailed me to say "I just wanted to... share some good news. I'll be starting Tulane Med School in a few weeks."  CONGRATULATIONS, RUBINA!!!!  GOOD LUCK and STUDY HARD??
NOTE form Mike Spector:  As you all know Dr. Itaya will be leaving after many years of distinguished and valued service to the Biomedical Sciences Department and the University of South Alabama... he will be greatly missed but I am sure that we all wish his family and him the BEST of LUCK and HAPPINESS... as I am the last remaining BMD faculty whose classes through which every BMD graduate had to suffer... I am going to try to takeover for Dr. Itaya as the conduit for alumni news and "gossip" ... so KEEP IN TOUCH and send any news or even to just say hello to me (mspector@usouthal.edu)... KEEP MAKING US PROUD

23 May from Antionette Lavender (al302@jaguar1.usouthal.edu):  "Dr. Itaya... It feels strange and good to receive an email from you that is not related to an assignment that's due.  Best wishes with relocating and your new job. May new and better doors be opened for you. (P.S. I was accepted into the MPH program at Florida A&M's Institute of Public Health for this fall.) - CONGRATULATIONS ANTIONETTE and GOOD LUCK!!!

23 May from Romsel Ang (romsel@hotmail.com):  "Dear Dr.Itaya...  I'm sure you're looking forward to moving closer to your parents‑‑‑ because I can't wait until Brandon finishes up and we move back to Mobile to be with my family.  I'm sure your parents are looking forward to it. By the way, Brandon and I are expecting another baby on September 11,   2005 (9‑11, at least it's Brandon's dad's b‑day as well)‑‑‑this time we're expecting a little girl. Of course this only makes me want to move closer to my parents so they can be around the babies as well as they plan on retiring and watching both babies. Well hope all goes well and keep in touch and tell you wife and children we said hello."... CONGRATULATIONS ROMSEL and BRANDON!!!

23 May from Ashley (Wolchina) Allison (awallison@sbcglobal.net):  "Hi Dr. Itaya...  I'm so sorry to hear you will be leaving. The department will truly never be the same. I was just talking with my sister‑in‑law and we were comparing our undergraduate experiences. She went to Auburn and had the typical university experience....no one knows who you are and certainly doesn't care if you are able to attain your goals or not.  In sharp contrast, my experience (thanks to the BMD department and your help) was very personal and filled with professors and mentors who wanted to see me reach my potential. I am so very grateful. We just got back to Houston last night from celebrating Ciara's first birthday with all the grandparents in Alabama. It's hard to believe another year has gone by. We are looking forward to finishing our residencies and fellowships so we can settle down in Birmingham. Houston is just too big for us. I hope your parents are well...I know they will be happy to have you nearer to them. Please keep in touch, I would love to hear from you."... HAPPY BIRTHDAY CIARA!!! - Congratualtions to the proud parents!!

21 May from Kelly Daus (kellydaus@msn.com):  "Dr. Itaya...  Congratulations on your new position!  You will be sorely missed at South, but I know you will be a tremendous asset at your new school. We have actually just relocated out West, too, to Albuquerque, NM.  My husband was activated as an Air Force chaplain, and we are stationed at Kirtland AFB.  I left my wonderful job as a rural family medicine PA to take time off to be a new Mom; our first child, a boy, is due in July." ... CONGRATULATIONS KELLY!!!

20 May from Jennifer Barrett Scheuermann (jebasch@cox.net):  "Dear Dr Itaya... I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for your dedication and commitment to not only the BMD program, but to students such as myself as well. I graduated with a BMD degree in 1998 before attending PA school at Baylor College of Medicine, where I graduated with honors. I truely believe that the quality of my undergraduate education prepared me for the academic challenges I encountered while at Baylor. The students at Delta College will be lucky to have you.  On a more personal note, I have been working with a Gastroenteroloy group in New Orleans since my graduation and am very happy here. Also, my husband and I are expecting our first child in November. I wish you and your family the best of luck with your upcoming move and your new job."... CONGRATULATIONS JENNIFER!!!

19 May from Crysti Varden  (cvarden@comcast.net): Don’t remember if I told you yet, but we’re expecting baby GIRL #3 in late September.  Hopefully, we are done…it’s exhausting work!... CONGRATULATIONS CRYSTI!!!
19 May from Diana Niculescu (diana_niculescu@hotmail.com) Congrats on the new position! Guess what! I'm in California also; just for the summer though. One of the labs that extended me a postdoc position (before I decided to go to Vet School) asked me to come over and work with them on several projects over the summer at UCSF.  Although I have only been in San Francisco for a couple of days and it has been pretty cold and rainy, I like it a lot. I'm sure I'll be in love with it by the time I have to go back to school (Auburn, AL of all places - I'm sure it will be a culture shock and it will take some re-adjusting).
19 May from Shannon Stinson (smstinson@uasom.uab.edu)   Shannon Stinson here, from the class of 2001.  I am sorry to hear of your leaving USA as I know you were a valuable asset to the program.  However, I know you will enjoy living in sunny California!  I wanted to let you know a couple things about my journey over the past 4 years.  I recently graduated for the University of Alabama School of Medicine (UAB) on May 15 along with Jane Schell and Nady Hamid.  I will be starting my residency for Emergency Medicine at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC in less than a month!  It sure is a scary thought that I am a doctor!  :)  Even bigger news than that is that I will be getting married to the love of my life, Bryan Dorsett, on September 24, 2005, in my hometown of Madison, AL.  He will move to NC with me after we are married, and we have huge dreams planned already!  Life is changing at a rapid pace for all of us, isn't it?
9 May from Sarah Britt (sbritt112@hotmail.comThe start of a wedding website... www.webspawner.com/users/sbritt112/index.html It's a little rough right now but this will keep you up to date on the going-ons of this crazy event.  There are still changes to be made...like registries aren't nailed down...we are ditching Macys and doing Crate and Barrel, Bed Bath & Beyond, Target...much better for us!  :}  Eventually, this will have directions to ceremony and reception sites, suggested hotels, things to do while in this fair (and hopefully not rainy) city, etc.  So bookmark it and keep checking...we are letting my father-in-law run it...he wants pictures and all sorts of things on it!  :} Just wanted to share!  Go to gallery and explore! - CONGRATULATION!!!

30 January from Chad Alexander  (BMD '01)  (c_alexander@charter.net   I just wanted to let you know that I have a new job at Emory University in Atlanta , GA. I'm working in the School of Medicine 's Human Genetics Department. I am working with blood and amniotic fluid doing florescent in situ hybridization using centromeric probes for genetic mutations and such. It's a great mix for me because we do clinical and research cases. Tell the USA gang I said, "Hello" and make this my new email address.  I am singing and playing lead guitar in a blues trio called Texas Hold 'Em here around the Atlanta area. My rock band Humble Susan is still somewhat active although all of our "day jobs" keep getting in the way. We are playing at the Masquerade Music Park in Atlanta on April 30, 2005 . It should be a lot of fun.
