Plans for record keeping, feedback to students, faculty, supervisors, and student remediation: Grades for assignments are kept on a spreadsheet by the instructor. Examinations will be returned to the students and are reviewed. Student progress is communicated with other faculty and supervisors as needed to track the student’s successful completion of the undergraduate degree.

Students with disabilities:  In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, students with bona fide disabilities will be afforded reasonable accommodation. The Office of Special Student will certify a disability and advise faculty members of reasonable accommodations. If you have a specific disability that qualifies you for academic accommodations, please notify me and provide certification from Disability Services (Office of Special Student Services). Such acts are viewed as moral and intellectual offenses and are subject to investigation and disciplinary action through appropriate University procedures. Penalties may range from the loss of credit for a particular assignment to dismissal from the University. (See The Lowdown, Student Academic Conduct Policy.)

Program accreditation: The Council of Academic Accreditation (CAA), under the auspices of the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA), has certified the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology at USA as an authorized educational facility. This means that credentials obtained by graduates in Speech-Language Pathology or Audiology will automatically be accepted by ASHA when these graduates apply for certification. If for any reason, students wish to contact CAA, they may do so at the following address:

Syllabus change policy: Since all courses do not progress at the same rate, the instructor may wish to modify the course requirements/assignments or their timing as circumstances dictate. For example, the instructor may wish to change the number and frequency of exams, or the number and sequence of assignments. However, the students must be given adequate notification via in-class announcements, email, or a memo in the student’s mailbox. Moreover, there may be non-typical classes for which these requirements are not strictly applicable in each instance and may need modification. If such modification is needed, it must be in writing and conform to the spirit of the policy statement.

Attendance: Students are expected to attend all classes. An honor system will prevail in this class. Should tests be missed, students will have to approach the instructor in order to compensate for the absence.

Evaluation for Speech Science Component: Two formal examinations (including the final) and several unannounced quizzes will be given for this portion of the class. The examinations each will count for 20% of the grade. The unannounced quizzes will count for 10%. Students will not be allowed to make up quizzes or examinations that are missed due to unexcused absences. Absences due to illness must be supported by a note from a Medical Doctor. Grades will be assigned on a 100-point scale with the following breakdown:

                                                            A  -  90 - 100

                                                            B  -  80 - 89
