The Second Bachelor's Degree Program in Speech and Hearing Sciences in the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology offers appropriate prerequisite undergraduate course work to individuals who hold a bachelor's degree in an area other than speech and hearing science, speech language pathology, audiology, or communication disorders. These prerequisite courses are needed to prepare the student for further graduate training and for certification by ASHA. Students apply directly to the department for admission to this program. Admission is limited and on a competitive basis. Those who meet admission requirements are admitted to the undergraduate Speech and Hearing Sciences program and the graduate MSSLP program. Admission to the MSSLP program is provisional and contingent on successful completion of the first year of the Second Bachelor's Degree Program in Speech and Hearing Sciences. Students may need to successfully complete additional coursework outside of the department. This coursework may be completed prior to admission to the program or concurrently with the Second Bachelor's Degree Program course work. All out-of-department coursework must be completed during this initial year. This includes supporting coursework in mathematics or statistics, an anatomy and physiology sequence, physics or chemistry, and 2 psychology courses.
Deadline for this program is April 1. Click here for Second Bachelor's Degree Program Application and Instructions.
Please see the USA Bulletin for Degree Requirements and Course Descriptions.
