The Friends of the McCall Library is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to strengthen and sustain The Doy Leale McCall Rare Book and Manuscript Library by supporting its activities and programs; assisting in special projects; encouraging gifts and bequests; offering opportunities for interested individuals to work together out of common interest for The McCall Library; and enhancing involvement in and enthusiasm for the preservation of historical materials. For as little as $15 a year ($5 if you're a currently-enrolled student), you can become a Friend and know that you are helping us preserve the photographic and written record of Mobile, this area, and the University of South Alabama. Over the years, the Friends have funded a number of projects that have not only provided us and the public with valuable tools but that have also helped sustain student workers. Two of those projects are "A Guide to Civil War Collections in Mobile, Alabama," and "A Guide to Historic Markers in Mobile, Alabama." In addition, the Friends have financed or contributed to the production of several genealogically-related books on Mobile County. For more about those, please see our publications page. Besides the satisfaction you will get knowing that your contribution to the Friends helps preserve our history and make it available to the public, your Friends membership also entitles you to the following:
