UNDERGRADUATE MANAGEMENT CONCENTRATIONS
Three undergraduate options are available within the Management
concentration: General Management, Human Resource Management and Quality and Systems
Management.
General Management
The General Management curriculum offers courses designed to give
students a solid foundation in the field of Management and will enable them to become
effective managers, problem-solvers, and decision-makers in the worlds of business,
industry, and government. Emphasis is placed upon problem recognition and anticipation,
problem solving, and managerial decision-making. The thrust of the curriculum is to give
students insight into the means for improving the productivity and efficiency of modern
organizations.
Each General Management major must take MGT 320 (Organizational
Behavior) and MGT 492 (Seminar: Management). In addition, seven Management concentration
electives must be selected by the student with the approval of the Management faculty
advisor.

Quality and Systems Management
Competition is forcing organizations to adopt new and progressive
ways of assuring quality products and services. The Quality and Systems Management (QSM)
concentration is designed to meet the growing need for individuals specializing in quality
management. Using the Total Quality Management philosophy as a model, the curriculum
addresses philosophical and strategic issues surrounding quality management, as well as
training in the statistical and problem solving tools used for process control and quality
improvement.
The QSM concentration requires all students to complete the
following nine courses:

Human Resource Management
Managers have become aware of the significant impact on the bottom line of effective
utilization of the human resources in an organization. As a result, the Human Resource
Manager has become a key person on the top management team. The Human Resource Management
curriculum provides the student with the skills and knowledge to become a proficient
practitioner in this leading organizational field.
Each student in the Human Resource Management concentration must
take MGT 320 (Organizational Behavior), MGT 351 (Human Resource Management), and MGT 492
(Seminar: Management). In addition, six of the following Human Resource Management
concentration electives must be completed by the student, with the approval of the
Management faculty advisor.
