AHN 230 Adult Health Nursing I 6 cr
Provides the opportunity to analyze theories, concepts, research, issues and trends in caring for adults with basic and commonly occurring health care needs. Content includes internal and external environmental factors affecting the health of adults with basic and commonly occurring health care needs. Emphasis is on the role of the professional nurse in health promotion and maintenance, illness care, and rehabilitation of adults. Requires professional component standing. Prerequisites: NU 220, NU 221, NU 325, HSC 232, and BMD 341. Corequisites: AHN 231 and HSC 233.

AHN 231 Adult Health Nursing Clinical I 5 cr
Clinical practice course in adult health nursing. The focus is on application of theories, concepts, research, issues and trends in caring for adults with basic and commonly occurring health care needs. Emphasis is on the role of the professional nurse and on the use of the nursing process with adults experiencing basic and commonly occurring health care needs and their families. Prerequisites: HSC 232, NU 220, NU 221, and NU 325. Corequisites: AHN 230 and HSC 233.

AHN 330 Adult Health Nursing II 6 cr
Provides students the opportunity to analyze theories, concepts, research, issues and trends in caring for adults with complex multisystem health care needs. Content includes internal and external environmental factors affecting the health of adults with complex multisystem health care needs. Emphasis is on the role of the professional nurse in health promotion and maintenance, illness care, and rehabilitation of adults. Prerequisites: MCN 345 and 346. Corequisite: AHN 331.

AHN 331 Adult Health Nursing Clinical II 5 cr
Clinical practice course in adult health nursing. Focus is on application of theories, concepts, research, issues and trends in caring for adults with complex multisystem health care needs. Emphasis is on the role of the professional nurse and on the use of the nursing process with adults experiencing complex multisystem health care needs and their families. Prerequisites: MCN 345 and 346. Corequisite: AHN 330.

AHN 524 Adult Health Clinical Nurse Specialist 5 cr
Internship
Students negotiate and fulfill contracts for CNS internship learning experiences in adult health nursing. Leader, caregiver, manager, consultant, educator, and researcher roles are integrated into selected areas of specialized clinical nursing practice based on an organizing framework and facilitated by faculty and preceptors. Prerequisites: NU 523, NU 508.

AHN 530 Advanced Adult Health Nursing I 3 cr
Advanced nursing practice roles with well and acutely ill adults. Integration of advanced knowledge and theories from nursing and related disciplines as a framework for advanced nursing practice with well and acutely ill adults. Prerequisite: NU 506. Corequisite: AHN 531.

AHN 531 Advanced Adult Health Nursing Practicum I 3 cr
Focuses on the application of selected frameworks for advanced nursing practice with well and acutely ill adults. Emphasis is on advanced nursing practice roles with well and acutely ill adults. Prerequisite: NU 506. Corequisite: AHN 530.

AHN 532 Advanced Adult Health Nursing II 3 cr
Advanced nursing practice roles with chronically ill and rehabilitating adults. Integration of advanced knowledge and theories from nursing and related disciplines as a framework for advanced nursing practice with chronically ill and rehabilitating adults. Prerequisite: NU 506. Corequisite: AHN 533.

AHN 533 Advanced Adult Health Nursing Practicum II 3 cr
Application of selected framework for advanced nursing practice with chronically ill and rehabilitating adults. Emphasis is on advanced nursing practice roles with chronically ill and rehabilitating adults. Prerequisite: NU 506. Corequisite: AHN 532.

AHN 568 Advanced Nursing Assessment of Adults 3 cr
Development of the ability to obtain comprehensive health histories and perform assessments of adolescents and adults. Focus is also on episodic histories, assessments, and analysis of diagnostic data. The course integrates theory and physiology into a beginning application of critical thinking and decision making in diagnosing. Prerequisite: Admission to Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Option. Corequisite: AHN 569.

AHN 569 Advanced Nursing Assessment of 1 cr
Adults Practicum
Provides a variety of clinical practice opportunities for students to obtain comprehensive health history and perform assessments of adolescents and adults and to analyze diagnostic date. Focus is on interpretation of findings and differential diagnoses. Prerequisite: Admission to Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Option. Corequisite: AHN 568.

AHN 570 Advanced Acute Care Nursing of Adults I 4 cr
Explores issues and trends in primary, secondary, and tertiary health care and the nurse practitioner contributes to wellness and health care management of adults and their families. Focus is also on families of cultural, ethnic, and racial minorities with an in-depth study of cardiac and pulmonary diseases. Prerequisites: NU 506, AHN 568, AHN 569. Corequisite: AHN 571.

AHN 571 Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner 2 cr
Role Practicum I
Provides student opportunities to practice the nurse practitioner role by applying didactic content to health care of well and/or recovering adolescents and adults of various ethnicity and social culture groups. Focus also on the advanced nursing management of adults with disorders of the cardiac and pulmonary system. Prerequisites: NU 506, AHN 568, AHN 569. Corequisite: AHN 570.

AHN 572 Advanced Acute Care Nursing of Adults II 3 cr
Provide an in-depth study of adults within the framework of nursing. Emphasis is on advanced nursing management of adults with disorders of the integumentary, gastrointestinal, renal, and endocrine systems. Focus also is on the common health problems of anxiety, depression, and advanced practice issues including health policy, managed care, advocacy and collaboration. Prerequisites: AHN 570, AHN 571. Corequisite: AHN 573.

AHN 573 Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner 4 cr
Role Practicum II
Provides a supervised practicum in the nurse practitioner role by applying content from the didactic course in actual patient care. Focus is on advanced nursing management of adolescents and adults with pathophysiological of the integumentary, renal, gastrointestinal, and endocrine systems. Prerequisite: AHN 570, AHN 571. Corequisite: AHN 572.

AHN 574 Advanced Acute Care Nursing of Adults III 3 cr
Focuses on current theory, research, and clinical management of adolescents, adults, and their families. Emphasis is on disorders and pathophysiology of the musculoskeletal, hematopoietic, neurological, and reproductive systems. Emphasis is also on pervading problems of violence and drug abuse. Course includes information on adult acute care nurse practitioner practice including practice issues, health policy, managed care, advocacy, and collaboration. Prerequisite: AHN 572, AHN 573. Corequisite: AHN 575.

AHN 575 Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner 4 cr
Role Practicum III
Provides an in-depth supervised clinical practicum in the care of adolescents, adults, and their families. The emphasis is on pathophysiology and management of disorders of the musculoskeletal, hematopoietic, neurological, and reproductive systems with attention to violence and drug abuse. Prerequisite: AHN 572, AHN 573. Corequisite: AHN 574.

AHN 576 Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner 5 cr
Role Internship
Culminating course for the adult acute care nurse practitioner program. Provides a concentrated supervised clinical experience in the adult acute care nurse practitioner role. Focus on the application of knowledge and skills acquired in all previous courses. Students manage the care of a caseload of adults in a primary, secondary, or tertiary care setting while under the guidance of faculty and preceptors. Prerequisites: AHN 575, AHN 574. Corequisite: AHN 577.

AHN 577 Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner 2 cr
Role Seminar
Seminar course integrating all other courses and clinical experiences. Case studies are used to discuss the appropriate management and the legal/ethical standards of the role of an adult acute care nurse practitioner. Prerequisites: AHN 574, AHN 575. Corequisite: AHN 576.

AHN 579 Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner 1 cr
Pharmacology Seminar I
Seminar course designed to provide students continued content on pharmacology. Case studies are used to analyze the clinical application and pharmacokinetics of drugs used with adults experiencing disorders of the cardiac, pulmonary, gastrointestinal, and renal systems. Prerequisite: NU 578. Corequisites: AHN 572, AHN 573.

AHN 580 Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner 1 cr
Pharmacology Seminar II
Seminar course designed to provide students continued content on pharmacology. Case studies are used to analyze the clinical application and pharmacokinetics of drugs used with individuals experiencing acute, chronic, and long-term health care problems related to the endocrine, musculoskeletal, hematopoietic, sensory, and integumentary systems. Prerequisite: NU 579. Corequisites: AHN 574, AHN 575.
