EDM 310 Microcomputing Systems in Education 4 cr
Basic understanding of microcomputing hardware and software for instructional purposes. Requires a special fee.

EDM 312 Educational Technology 4 cr
Application of current educational technology in various instructional environments. Laboratory experience is given with selected software programs. May be repeated when technological application changes.

EDM 385* Methods of Instructional Communication 4 cr
Application of current concepts in communication and instructional system design to elementary and secondary teaching. Operation of basic mediaware and overview of literature related to media use are stressed.

EDM 430 Workshop in Educational Media 1-12 cr
In-depth study of operational experience in current trends and techniques in educational media research.

EDM 455 Hypermedia I 4 cr
This course provides educators with the skills and knowledge necessary to develop interactive hypermedia for use in the classroom for instruction, presentations, lectures, and multi-media events.

EDM 461 Hypermedia II 4 cr
This course provides pre-service educators and educators with the skills and knowledge necessary to repurpose existing videodiscs for use in different instructional activities other than those for which they were originally designed. Emphasis is placed on techniques for using the vast number of videodiscs in multimedia products, lectures, demonstrations, etc. Prerequisite: EDM 455.

EDM 462 Methods of Computer Science Education 4 cr
A course for teachers, candidates for teaching degrees, or computer science majors interested in learning the techniques of teaching computer science. Requires a special fee.

EDM 464* Computer-Assisted Instruction 4 cr
A course for persons interested in the use of the computer to present instructional material to students. Current learning theory as it pertains to authoring will be discussed. New lessons will be developed using several "authoring languages" which simplify the creation of instructional material. Requires a special fee.

EDM 479 Instructional Photography 4 cr
Application of photojournalistic technology and processes in the design of instruction. Prerequisite: Permission of department.

EDM 482* Preparation of Instructional Materials 4 cr
Basic elements in the planning, preparation, and evaluation of teacher-produced instructional materials.

EDM 488 Closed-Circuit-Television Production 4 cr
Planning and producing videotapes for educational purposes. Prerequisite: EDM 482 or permission of department.

EDM 490 Special Topics 4 cr
Investigation of contemporary topics of interest in Educational Media. Prerequisite: Permission of department.

EDM 494 Directed Study: ED Media 2 or 4 cr
Directed study in Educational Media. No more than two directed studies can count toward the Bachelor's degree. Requires departmental approval.

Application of current software and hardware in various instructional environments including laboratory experience with selected software and hardware.

In-depth study and operational experience in current trends and techniques in educational media research.

EDM 533 Curriculum Media for Children 4 cr
Selection and evaluation of print and nonprint literature with emphasis on meeting the needs of students. Appreciation of literature and the art of storytelling.

EDM 552 Curriculum Media for Young Adults 4 cr
Discussion and evaluation of print and nonprint literature for students in grades 7-12, with extensive reading, listening, and viewing of materials.

EDM 562 Methods of Computer Science Education 4 cr

EDM 565 Hypermedia I 4 cr
This course provides educators with the skills and knowledge necessary to develop interactive hypermedia instructional stacks on the Apple II line of computers for use in the classroom for instruction, presentations, lectures, and multi-media events. Current emphasis is on Tutor-Tech but will vary as other tools become available.

EDM 566 Hypermedia II 4 cr
This course provides students with skills and knowledge necessary to repurpose existing videodiscs for use in different instructional activities other than those for which they were originally designed. Emphasis is placed on techniques for using the vast number of videodiscs in multimedia productions, instructional design projects, lectures, and demonstrations, etc.

Application of photographic techniques and materials to problems of instruction.

EDM 580 Reference and Selection of Curriculum 4 cr
Materials Study and evaluation of basic reference works found in school libraries. Introduction to computer-search process and theories for selecting and evaluating print and nonprint materials to coordinate with the school curriculum.

EDM 581 School Library Management 4 cr
Routines for effective management of materials, including acquisitions, processing, circulation, use and maintenance. Consideration is given to financial problems, preparing of reports, and accrediting standards.

EDM 582 Production of Curriculum Media 4 cr
Provides instruction in the elements of planning, preparation and evaluation of professional curricular materials for group and individual instruction. Prerequisite: EDM 510 or EDM 520.

EDM 583 Classification and Organization of Media 4 cr
Descriptive cataloging of library materials and their classification by subject. Emphasis is placed on print and nonprint problems encountered in school library-media center situations.

EDM 584 Educational Technology Laboratory 2 cr
Problems in selection, evaluation, operation, and utilization of mediaware.

EDM 585 Administering the Educational Media Center 4 cr
General practices and procedures for establishing, organizing, and operating the media center. Students submit plans for hypothetical or actual situations. Permission of department chair required.

EDM 587 Seminar in Nonverbal Communication 4 cr
A study of proxemics, postural and gestural communication, facial expression and other nonverbal "language" systems. Oriented toward teacher-student interaction. Research projects required.

EDM 588 Utilization and Evaluation of 4 cr
Instructional Television Problems in selection, operation, and use of industrial and educational closed circuit television. Planning, producing and evaluating of video presentations for education and instruction.

EDM 590 Special Topics 4 cr
Topics of contemporary interest in the area of Educational Media will be presented, discussed, and investigated.

EDM 591 Trends and Issues in Educational Media 4 cr
Discussion and investigation of current major trends and issues in educational technology and their implications for instruction.

EDM 592 Instructional Communication 4 cr
An introduction to major elements of communication and general systems theories and their application to teaching and learning.

EDM 594 Directed Study and Research 2 or 4 cr
Students explore problems and issues of special interest or significance in Educational Media. Not more than four quarter hours may be accepted toward degree programs.

EDM 595 Internship in Educational Media 4, 8, or 12 cr
The internship is a supervised learning experience in a work setting similar to that in which a media specialist eventually will be employed. Departmental approval is required.

EDM 599 Thesis 1-12 cr
A student selects a project, study, or investigation related to the area of specialization in Educational Media. The project forms a basis for the thesis. A thesis committee provides direction during the investigation and during the writing of the thesis.

EDM 610 Advanced Production of Curriculum Media 4 cr
The planning, design, and preparation of photographic and audio instructional materials will form the basis of comprehensive, sophisticated, software systems.

EDM 679 Advanced Photography 4 cr
In-depth application of photographic techniques and materials to problems of instruction.

EDM 685 Administering the Educational Media Center 4 cr
Practices and procedures for administering the educational media center.

EDM 689 Information Storage and Retrieval in Education 4 cr
Examination and application of computer systems to school library media centers.

EDM 690 Special Topics 4 cr
Presents topics of contemporary interest in the area of Educational Media.

EDM 696 Advanced Reference and Selection 4 cr
Bibliographic organization and reference use of professional resources in education, including governmental documents, publications of educational associations, professional journals and indices, research reports, and computerized bibliographies.

EDM 698 Advanced Cataloging 4 cr
Modern trends in cataloging with emphasis on standards for cataloging educational media.

EDM 699 Research Project 4 cr
Provides an opportunity to synthesize and apply the various program components in a selected instructional setting. (May be repeated for a total of 8 quarter hours.)
