The courses listed below are common to two or more programs.
EG 220 Electrical Circuits 4 cr
Basic SI units. Resistive (R) networks with independent and
dependent sources. Ohm's and Kirchhoff's laws. Network theorems - Superposition, Source
Transformation, Thevenin's and Norton's. Inductors (L) and capacitors (C) as energy
storage elements in RLC circuits. Sinusoids and phasors and their applications in RLC
circuits. RMS values of voltages and currents. Average power and power factor in AC
circuits. Prerequisite: MA 132.
EG 230 Engineering Economics 4 cr
Application of economic principles to engineering problems;
calculation of capitalized costs, present worth, prospective rates of return, and annual
costs; economy of equipment replacement. Prerequisite: EG 220 or 270 or 283.
EG 270 Engineering Thermodynamics 3 cr
First and second law of thermodynamics with applications.
Prerequisites: MA 233 and PH 216.
EG 283 Statics 4 cr
Vector algebra; forces, moments, couples; equilibrium analysis of
rigid bodies, beams, trusses, frames, area and mass moments of inertia, and friction.
Prerequisites: PH 215 and MA 132.
EG 284 Dynamics 5 cr
Kinematics and kinetics of particles and rigid bodies. Work/energy
and momentum methods. Prerequisites: EG 283 and MA 132.
EG 310 Numerical Methods 4 cr
Theory and application of basic numerical methods utilized in
engineering analysis. Prerequisite: MA 234 and MA 331, Corequisite: CIS 271.
EG 315 Mechanics of Materials 4 cr
An introduction to the mechanics of deformable bodies. Analysis of
stress and strain. Emphasis of axial, torsional and bending loads. Deflections,
deformations, and column stability. Prerequisites: EG 283, MA 234 and PH 215.
EG 319 Mechanics of Materials Laboratory 1 cr
Experimental study of material properties. Stress-stain curves,
tensile strength, torsion, beam bending, strain measurements, and columns. Prerequisite:
EH 102, Corequisite: EG 315.
