EPY 251 Human Growth and Development 4 cr
A study of the physical, mental, social, and emotional development
of young people from conception to late adolescence.
EPY 310 Interaction and Counseling Techniques 4 cr
Analysis of the human interaction process with specific training in
such communicative skills as active listening, empathy, congruent sending, conflict
resolution procedures, setting stable limits, and establishing a healthy psychological
atmosphere in a variety of environments.
EPY 315 The Adolescent in the School 4 cr
Assists future educators to understand adolescent development and
behavior of students in the middle and high schools. Issues and problems include: the
school's role in the social, emotional, and intellectual development of middle and
secondary school students from diverse, multicultural backgrounds; student-teacher and
peer relationships; and the academic and vocational planning process.
EPY 415 Basic Statistics and Experimental Design 4 cr
Prepares students to use statistical concepts in evaluating data
which will normally include: measures of central tendency and variability, the normal
distribution curve, sampling error, measures of relationship and significance of
differences, and the design of experiments.
EPY 451 Educational Psychology 4 cr
Includes the systematic study of pupils, learning, and teaching;
teaching and learning strategies; developmental trends; individual differences; and
methods of communication.
EPY 455* Evaluation of Teaching and Learning (W) 4 cr
The application of formative and summative evaluative concepts in
building and interpreting tests in the educational setting.
EPY 490 Special Topics 4 cr
Study of a significant topic, theory, model, or problem in
behavioral studies. May be repeated once for credit when the content varies.
EPY 494 Directed Study 2-4 cr
Directed individual study and research. Prerequisite: Consent of
department chair (No more than two directed studies can be counted toward the Bachelor's
degree and Class B Certificate.)

EPY 502 Psychological Principles of Learning 4 cr
Psychology of learning as it pertains to education. Emphasis is on
both the practical application of learning principles in educational and training
classroom situations and theories of learning.
EPY 521 Human Development and Behavior 4 cr
A study of the crucial developmental principles of human development
and behavior focusing on: developmental tasks over the life span; growth patterns of the
diverse subcultures emphasizing attitudes, values, and learning styles; family, school,
and community impact on people of all ages living and growing in a multicultural society.
EPY 555 Tests, Measurement, and Evaluation 4 cr
Understanding and interpreting the meaning of test scores. Technical
qualities desired in a test. Techniques for obtaining information about clients and/or
students. Using this information in counseling, consulting, and teaching. Cultural bias in
tests. Problems of testing and obtaining information about clients and/or students with
diverse backgrounds.
EPY 556 Individual Intelligence Testing: 4 cr
The Wechsler Intelligence Scales Includes
basic theories of intelligence, basic concepts and principles of intelligence testing, and
extensive practice in administering, scoring, and interpreting the Wechsler Adult
Intelligence Scale, the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, and the Wechsler
Preschool and Primary Scales of Intelligence in a wide variety of educational settings.
Competencies in consulting with other professional personnel and parents will be
emphasized.
EPY 557 Individual Intelligence Testing: 4 cr
The Stanford-Binet Scale Includes basic
theories of intelligence, basic concepts and principles of intelligence testing, and
extensive practice in administering, scoring, and interpreting the Stanford-Binet Scale in
a wide variety of educational settings. Competencies in consulting with other professional
personnel and with parents will be emphasized.
EPY 568 Multiple Talent Development 4 cr
A structured competency-based program to apply the multiple talent
theory approach to the classroom situation. The multiple talents program is designed to
help teachers recognize and nurture multiple talents in all children, including talents in
the areas of productive thinking, communication, forecasting, decision-making, and
planning, as well as in academic areas.
EPY 590 Special Topics 4 cr
Guided supervision in the completion of learning tasks in
educational psychology such as program design and revision, study of a significant topic,
theory, model, and supervision of selected learning activities to acquire specific
counseling and testing skills.
EPY 594 Directed Study and Research 2, 4 cr
Students explore through directed study of problems and issues of
special interest or significance in Educational Psychology. Not more than four quarter
hours of any departmental 594 courses can be accepted toward a degree program.
EPY 602 Advanced Theories of Learning 4 cr
A study of the major psychological theories, models, research, and
principles that apply to the teaching and learning process. Special attention will be
given to cognitivistic approaches.
EPY 610 Analysis of Learner Characteristics 4 cr
Discussion and examination of learner characteristics as related to
learning and instruction. Methods and models for utilizing learner characteristics in
instructional design practices considered.
