HPE 500 Administration and Supervision in 4 cr
Health and Physical Education A study of the principles, techniques, and methods used in administration and supervision of health and physical education in schools and colleges.

HPE 503 Evaluation of Teaching and Learning 4 cr
Measurement and evaluation of student progress and teaching effectiveness in the psychomotor domain.

HPE 505 Critical Reading and Writing in Content Field 4 cr
Familiarization with outstanding authors and critical issues in the field of Health, Physical Education, Leisure Services, and Traffic Education with opportunity for class interaction and exposition of ideas.

HPE 506 The Physical Education Curriculum 4 cr
Course presents an overview of the physical education curriculum, its foundations, critical issues and modern trends. It explores curriculum content areas of scheduling, administration, teaching methods, and various standards and procedures for evaluation. Research techniques are used to pursue problems suited to interest and need.

HPE 516 Physiological Aspects of Movement 4 cr
Study is made of the underlying principles of the physiological responses of the human body to exercise and training.

HPE 521 Motor Learning 4 cr
Theories and applications of the foundations of learning motor skills are presented.

HPE 530 Seminar in Health and Physical Education 4 cr
Professional growth through depth experience in presentation of problems and formal papers, with emphasis on guided discussions and research criticism.

HPE 531 Seminar in Health and Physical Education 4 cr
Sports skills clinics, coaching clinics, recreational workshops, and related special events to meet the changing need of the practitioner.

HPE 540 Cardiovascular Responses to 4 cr
Exercise and Training Course reviews the current status of exercise testing and training in terms of physiological bases and clinical applications.

HPE 550 Perceptual and Motor Development in Children 4 cr
Designed to give the classroom teacher, special educator, and physical educator a background in perceptual-motor development and training in infants and children.

HPE 552 Diagnostic and Prescriptive Techniques 4 cr
in Adapted Physical Education Course is designed to enable physical educators and special educators to diagnose effectively and assess the present level of psychomotor functioning of handicapped children so that appropriate instructional activities can be prescribed. The course content is developed primarily for those teachers and supervisors responsible for the planning and instructing of motor therapy, games, and sports suited to the needs, interests, and limitations of students whose disabilities do not permit them to participate safely or successfully in unrestricted games and sports.

HPE 554 Practicum in Adapted Physical Education 4 cr
A practical experience designed to bridge the gap between formal educational experience and direct professional involvement. The practicum experience gives the student the opportunity to plan, organize, and instruct in various facilities and settings developed for handicapped children.

HPE 570 Stress Testing and Exercise Prescription 4 cr
Course is designed to develop the competencies necessary to administer graded exercise tests and prescribe appropriate exercises based upon clinical observations and physiological data.

HPE 581 Internship in Corrective Therapy 12 or 16 cr
Requires two quarters of clinical training with the Veterans Administration, Biloxi, Mississippi, for a maximum of sixteen quarter hours credit granted at conclusion of training. Training involves rehabilitation of neuropsychiatrically and physically handicapped patients and includes principles, tools, techniques, and the psychology of corrective physical education. Students must meet admission requirements for the internship program of the Veterans Administration. Upon successful conclusion of clinical training and approval of the student's application, the student will be eligible to take the professional examination for the Certified Corrective Therapist (C.C.T.) certificate. Not more than 16 hours may be taken.

HPE 590 Special Topics in HPELS 4 cr
A varying-content course treating various aspects of health, physical education, and leisure services. May be repeated once for credit when course content varies.

HPE 594 Directed Study and Research 4 cr
Students explore through directed individual study and research problems and issues of special interest or significance in Health and Physical Education. Not more than four quarter hours of any departmental 594 courses can be accepted toward a degree program.

HPE 595 Internship in Health and 4, 8, 12 cr
Physical Education The internship is a supervised learning experience in a work setting similar to that in which the student will eventually be employed. The internship provides the student with an opportunity to apply the theories and concepts learned during the graduate program. Not more than 12 hours may be taken.

HPE 599 Thesis 1-12 cr
A student selects a project, study, or investigation in Health or Physical Education. Such project forms the basis for the thesis. A Thesis Committee will give guidance during the investigation and during the writing of the thesis.

HPE 601 Biomechanical Foundations in 4 cr
Human Movement Course helps teachers to develop competence in applying basic laws of physics and cinemato-graphical techniques to the analyses of human motion.

HPE 602 Techniques in Supervision in Physical Education 4 cr
Course is designed to familiarize the potential supervisor, in-depth, with the principles, problems, and techniques involved in its processes. Evaluation techniques are treated as an integral part of each of the four areas involved.

HPE 603 Advanced Movement and Evaluation in HPE 4 cr
Measurement and evaluation in the areas of strength, balance, flexibility, endurance, general motor capacity, perceptual motor-functions, and anthropometrics.

HPE 694 Directed Study and Research 4 cr
Students explore through directed study problems and issues of special interest or significance in Health and Physical Education. Not more than four quarter hours of any departmental 694 courses can be accepted toward a degree program.

HPE 695 Internship 4, 8, 12 cr
A supervised field study investigation in a candidate's work setting. The student will conduct an investigation, apply concepts and skills learned during the Sixth-Year Program. Prerequisites: IDE 640, 650, 660.

HPE 699 Research Project 4 cr
A supervised research project or investigation in instructional development. The student will conduct an investigation, apply concepts and skills learned during the sixth-year program. May be taken more than one quarter; total cannot exceed 8 quarter hours.
