MCN 340 Maternal-Gynecologic Health Nursing 6 cr
Provides students the opportunity to analyze theories, concepts,
research, and issues and trends in nursing of the childbearing family. Content includes
internal and external environmental factors affecting the health of the childbearing
family. Emphasis on the role of the professional nurse in health promotion and
maintenance, and wellness-illness care of the childbearing family. Prerequisites: CMN 350
and 351; HSC 232. Corequisite: MCN 341.
MCN 341 Maternal-Gynecologic Health Nursing Clinical 5 cr
Clinical practice course in nursing of the childbearing family.
Focus is on the application of theories, concepts, research, and issues and trends in
nursing of the childbearing family. Emphasis is on the role of the professional nurse in
nursing care of the childbearing family and on the use of the nursing process with the
childbearing family. Prerequisites: CMN 350 and 351; HSC 232. Corequisite: MCN 340.
MCN 345 Child Health Nursing 6 cr
Provides students the opportunity to analyze theories, concepts,
research, and issues and trends in child health nursing. Content includes internal and
external environmental factors affecting the health of children. Emphasis is on the role
of the professional nurse in health promotion and maintenance, illness care, and
rehabilitation of children. Prerequisites: MCN 340 and 341, BMD 341. Corequisite: MCN 346.
MCN 346 Child Health Nursing Clinical 5 cr
Clinical practice course in child health nursing. Focus is on the
application of theories, concepts, research, and issues and trends in child health
nursing. Emphasis is on the role of the professional nurse in child health nursing and on
the use of the nursing process with children and their families. Prerequisites: MCN 340
and 341, BMD 341. Corequisite: MCN 345.
MCN 524 Woman/Child Health Clinical 5 cr
Nurse Specialist Internship Students
negotiate and fulfill contracts for CNS internship learning experiences in woman/child
health nursing. Leader, caregiver, manager, consultant, educator, and researcher roles are
integrated into selected areas of specialized clinical nursing practice based on an
organizing framework and facilitated by faculty and preceptors. Prerequisites: NU 523, NU
508.
MCN 530 Advanced Woman /Child Health Nursing I 3 cr
Advanced nursing practice roles with women and children in primary
care settings. Emphasis is on the integration of advanced knowledge and theories from
nursing and related disciplines as a framework for advanced nursing practices with women
and children in primary care settings. Prerequisites: NU 506. Corequisite: MCN 531.
MCN 531 Advanced Woman/Child Health Nursing 3 cr
Practicum I Application of selected
frameworks for advanced nursing practice with women and children in primary care settings.
Emphasis is on advanced nursing practice roles with women and children in primary care
settings. Prerequisites: NU 506. Corequisite: MCN 530.
MCN 532 Advanced Woman/Child Health 3 cr
Nursing II Focus on advanced nursing
practice roles with women and children in secondary and tertiary care settings. Emphasis
is on the integration of advanced knowledge and theories from nursing and related
disciplines as a framework for advanced nursing practices with women and children in
secondary and tertiary care settings. Prerequisites: NU 506. Corequisite: MCN 533.
MCN 533 Advanced Woman/Child Health 3 cr
Nursing Practicum II Focuses on the
application of selected frameworks for advanced nursing practice with women and children
in secondary and tertiary care settings. Emphasis is on advanced nursing practice roles
with women and children in secondary and tertiary care settings. Prerequisites: NU 506.
Corequisite: MCN 532.
MCN 568 Advanced Nursing Assessment of the Neonate 3 cr
Develops the ability to obtain comprehensive perinatal health
histories and perform physical examinations of the neonate. Focus is also on assessments
of neonates with specific variations, and analysis of diagnostic data. Course integrates
theory and physiology into a beginning application of critical thinking and decision
making in diagnosing. Prerequisite: Admission to the Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Program.
Corequisite: MCN 569.
MCN 569 Advanced Nursing Assessment of 1 cr
the Neonate Practicum Provides a
variety of clinical practice opportunities for students to obtain comprehensive perinatal
health histories, perform assessments of neonates, and analyze diagnostic data. Focus on
interpretation of findings and differential diagnosis. Prerequisite: Admission to the
Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Program. Corequisite: MCN 568.
MCN 570 Neonate Nurse Practitioner Role I 4 cr
Develops student abilities to manage the critically ill neonate.
Content will include selected physiological problems, resuscitation and stabilization, and
psychosocial/environmental needs of the neonate/family. Prerequisites: NU 506, MCN 568,
MCN 569. Corequisite: MCN 571.
MCN 571 Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Role Practicum I 2 cr
Providing an in-depth supervised clinical practicum in the Level II
or Level III Nursery under the direct supervision of clinical preceptors and faculty.
Emphasis will be placed on the development of clinical reasoning and differential
diagnosis. Prerequisite: MCN 568, MCN 569. Corequisite: MCN 570.
MCN 572 Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Role II 3 cr
Students develop and utilize strategies to manage the critically ill
neonate. Selected physiological problems along with ethical principles and legal issues
will be addressed. Prerequisites: MCN 570, MCN 571. Corequisite: MCN 573.
MCN 573 Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Role Practicum II 4 cr
Providing an in-depth supervised clinical practicum in the intensive
care nursery under the direct supervision of clinical preceptors and faculty. Emphasis is
on the development of clinical reasoning and differential diagnosis. Prerequisites: MCN
570, MCN 571. Corequisite: MCN 572.
MCN 574 Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Role III 3 cr
In-depth study of the neonate within the advanced practice framework
of nursing. Course will include information on advanced practice roles, long term care,
and health policy issues. Prerequisite: MCN 572, MCN 573. Corequisite: MCN 575.
MCN 575 Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Role 4 cr
Practitioner III Provides an in-depth
supervised clinical practicum in the intensive care nursery. Emphasis on the
pathophysiology and management of the neonate and the development of differential
diagnosis. Prerequisite: MCN 572, MCN 573. Corequisite: MCN 574.
MCN 576 Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Internship 5 cr
Culminating course for the neonatal nurse practitioner program.
Provides a concentrated supervised clinical experience in the neonatal nurse practitioner
role. Focus on the application of knowledge and skills acquired in all previous courses.
Prerequisites: All courses required for the NNP major except NU 514 or NU 599.
Corequisite: MCN 577.
MCN 577 Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Seminar 2 cr
Focus is to assist students to integrate all other courses and
clinical experiences. Case studies used to analyze the appropriate management and
legal/ethical standards of the role of an advanced practice neonatal nurse. Students are
assisted to develop a portfolio of their practice experiences during the MSN program and a
resume. Prerequisites: MCN 574, MCN 575. Corequisites: MCN 576.
MCN 579 Neonatal Nurse Practitioner 1 cr
Pharmacology Seminar I Seminar course
designed to provide students continued content on pharmacology. Case studies will be used
to analyze the clinical application and pharmacokinetics of drugs used with neonates
related to acute conditions occurring at birth: prematurity, cardiovascular defects,
respiratory problems, and other life-threatening problems. Prerequisite: NU 578.
MCN 580 Neonatal Nurse Practitioner 1 cr
Pharmacology Seminar II Seminar course
designed to provide students continued content on pharmacology. Case studies will be used
to analyze the clinical application and pharmacokinetics of drugs used with neonates
experiencing chronic and long-term health care problems related to prematurity and other
defects. Course may be taken concurrently or after the student has completed MCN 573 and
MCN 574. Prerequisite: MCN 579.
