MUE 101, 102, 103 Elementary Class Piano 1 cr each qtr
Functional keyboard playing. Open to any university student except
piano majors. No previous knowledge in piano necessary. To be taken in sequence. Fee.
MUE 141, 142 String Methods Class 1 cr each qtr
The techniques of teaching the string instruments in class
situations and the development of some proficiency on each string instrument. To be taken
in sequence.
MUE 181, 182, 183 Elementary Class Guitar 1 cr each qtr 2(1)
Beginning guitar instruction with the development of proficiency in
sight reading and correct right and left hand techniques. No previous knowledge in guitar
is necessary. Open to any University student excluding guitar majors. To be taken in
sequence. Fee.
MUE 201, 202, 203 Intermediate Class Piano 1 cr each qtr 2(1)
A continuation of elementary class piano including sight-reading and
keyboard harmony. Open to non-piano majors. Fee.
MUE 241, 242 Woodwind Methods Class 1 cr each qtr 2(1)
The techniques of teaching the woodwind instruments in class
situations and the development of some proficiency on each of the main woodwinds. To be
taken in sequence.
MUE 301 Fundamentals of Music for 4 cr
Elementary Teachers The fundamentals of music, music reading, and
classroom instrument experience in the light of the needs of the classroom teacher. Not
open to music majors or those with previous music-theory credit.
MUE 321 Organization and Management of 3 cr
Church Music Programs A study of the
planning and organization of the church music program. Offered in 1997-98 and alternate
years.
MUE 341, 342 Brass Methods Class 1 cr each qtr
The techniques of teaching the brass instruments in class situations
and the development of some proficiency on each of the main brass instruments. To be taken
in sequence.
MUE 345 Percussion Methods Class 1 cr
The techniques of teaching percussion instruments and the
development of some proficiency on all percussion instruments.
MUE 346 Marching Band Techniques 2 cr
The techniques of organization, administration, instruction, and
rehearsal of the marching band.
MUE 402 Elementary-School Music Methods 4 cr
and Materials Methods and music
literature and teaching aids for the elementary grades. Prerequisite: MUE 301 or
equivalent.
MUE 444 Middle-School Music Methods 4 cr
and Materials (W) Music program,
methods, music literature, and teaching aids for the middle and junior-high school
students. Prerequisite: MUT 213 and MUE 301.
MUE 446 Piano Pedagogy 3 cr
Methods and materials for the private lesson. Lab practice in
teaching included. Piano majors only or permission of instructor required. Offered in
1996-97 and alternate years.
MUE 447 Accompanying Techniques 2 cr
Practicum in accompanying. Offered in 1998-99 and alternate years.

Study of the organization, development, appraisal, role and future
trends of instrumental programs in the public schools.
MUE 502 Vocal Music Education 4 cr
Study of the organization, development, appraisal, role and future
trends of vocal music programs in the public schools.
MUE 524 Piano Pedagogy I 2 cr
Methods and materials for the piano teacher. Prerequisite: Admission
to the graduate program with keyboard as concentration or major.
MUE 525 Seminar in Piano Pedagogy 2 cr
Seminar on instructional methods and materials for the piano
teacher. Guest lectures and class participation/demonstration. Prerequisite: MUE 524.
MUE 590 Special Topics 4 cr
Special topics in music education designed to meet specific needs
and special interests, and to explore current issues in the field.
