CMN 350 Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing 3 cr
Provides students the opportunity to analyze theories, concepts, research, and issues and
trends in psychiatric-mental health nursing. Focus is on internal and external factors affecting the
mental health of children, adolescents, adults, and families. Emphasis is on the role of the
professional nurse in health promotion and maintenance, illness care, and rehabilitation of
children, adolescents, adults, and families experiencing psychiatric-mental health concerns.
Pre-requisites: NU 300 and NU 301. Corequisite: CMN 351.
CMN 351 Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing Clinical 3 cr
Clinical practice course in psychiatric-mental health nursing. Focus is on the application
of theories, concepts, research, and issues and trends in psychiatric-mental health nursing.
Emphasis is on the role of the professional nurse in psychiatric-mental health nursing and on the
use of the nursing process with children, adolescents, adults and families experiencing
psychiatric-mental health concerns. Pre-requisites: NU 300 and NU 301. Corequisite: CMN350.
CMN 420 Aggregate Professional Nursing Care 3 cr
Provides students an in-depth exploration of community health nursing concepts and
principles from an aggregate health care perspective. Focus is on the prevention of disease and
the promotion of health. The changing needs of an increasingly culturally diverse population
within the social context of the community are examined. Course content includes
environmental, economical, political, and legal constraints to the health of aggregates.
Emphasizes the use of the nursing process to assess the complex factors in the community that
affect the health of aggregates. Students are guided in the study of interventions that prevent
disease and promote health. Prerequisites: AHN 447 and AHN448. Corequisite: CMN 421.
CMN 421 Aggregate Nursing Care Clinical 3 cr
Provides students an opportunity to analyze a selected community and assess the health
aggregates. Students will apply the nursing process to identify factors within communities that
influence the health of aggregates. Students investigate and evaluate resources which support
disease prevention and health promotion. Prerequisites: AHN 447 and AHN 448. Corequisite:
CMN 420.
CMN 543 Advanced Community Health Nursing 3 cr
The purpose of this course is to examine concepts and methods of advanced community
health nursing practice. The focus is on the roles of advanced community health nurses in
community systems. The emphasis is on the integration of advanced knowledge and theories
from nursing and related disciplines as a framework for assessing the health care needs of
communities and populations. Prerequisites: NU 506, NU 540, NU 541, NU 542. Pre or

CMN 544 Advanced Community Health Nursing Practicum 3 cr
The purpose of this course is to provide an opportunity to practice advanced community
health nursing roles. The focus is on the application of selected theoretical frameworks with
communities and populations in current and emerging health care settings. The emphasis is on
critical analysis of community data, program planning, and development. Prerequisites: NU 506,
NU 540, NU 541, NU 542. Pre or Corequisite: NU 508. Corequisite: CMN 543.
CMN 545 Advanced Community Health Nursing Internship 4 cr
The purpose of this culminating course is to provide a preceptor and faculty facilitated
experience in advanced community health nursing roles with a focus on the application and
synthesis of knowledge and skills acquired in all previous courses. Prerequisites: CMN 543,
CMN 544, NU 562. Corequisite: CMN 546. Pre or Co-requisites: All core and research courses.
CMN 546 Advanced Community Health Nursing Seminar 2 cr
The purpose of this course is to provide a forum for the evaluation of issues and trends
encountered in health care. Emphasis is on critical analysis and management of these issues by
advanced community health nurses in an interdisciplinary health care delivery system.
Prerequisites: CMN 543, CMN 544, NU 562. Corequisite: CMN 545. Pre or Co-requisites: All core and research courses.
CMN 548 Advanced Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing Assessment 2 cr
The purpose of this course is to expand the Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse
Practitioner/Clinical Nurse Specialists student's knowledge and skills for obtaining and recording
a systematic health assessment of adults with psychiatric-mental health concerns. Emphasis is
placed on synthesis and application of nursing and related theories and scientific knowledge to
the development of differential/nursing diagnoses as a basis for health promotion and
management. Corequisite: CMN 549.
CMN 549 Advanced Psychiatric/Mental Health Assessment Practicum1 cr
The purpose of this clinical course is to provide an environment in which
Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner/Clinical Nurse Specialist students have the
opportunity to become proficient at obtaining and recording a systematic health history and
advanced physical examination of adults. The focus is refinement of cognitive and clinical skills
needed to provide comprehensive health assessments of adults with special emphasis on
psychiatric-mental health. Corequisite: CMN 548.
CMN 552 Advanced Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing I 3 cr
The purpose of this didactic course is to prepare the Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse
Practitioner/ Clinical Nurse Specialist student to assess, diagnose, and manage selected health
care needs of adults with psychiatric-mental health concerns. The focus is on advanced practice
nursing with adults and families in primary and acute care settings. Emphasis is placed on the
wellness, pathophysiology, and epidemiology underlying acute and chronic psychiatric-mental
health problems. Prerequisites: CMN 548, CMN 549, NU 506. Corequisite: CMN 553.
CMN 553 Advanced Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing Practicum I 3 cr
The purpose of this practicum course is to provide opportunities for Psychiatric-Mental
Health Nurse Practitioner/Clinical Nurse Specialist students to apply concepts from CMN 552
Advanced Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing I in select clinical settings. Focus is on advanced
practice nursing in primary and acute care settings with adults and families experiencing
psychiatric-mental health concerns. The emphasis is on diagnostic reasoning and decision
making/critical thinking. Prerequisites: CMN 548, CMN 549, NU 506. Corequisite: CMN 552.
CMN 554 Advanced Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing II 3 cr
The purpose of this course is to provide the Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse
Practitioner/Clinical Nurse Specialist student an in-depth study of psychiatric-mental health care
management of adults within the framework of advanced nursing. The focus is on selected acute
and chronic complex psychiatric-mental health care problems. Emphasis is on the interaction
among health care providers in a culturally diverse environment. Prerequisites: CMN 552, CMN
553. Corequisites: CMN 555, CMN 560.
CMN 555 Advanced Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing Practicum II 3 cr
The purpose of this course is to provide opportunity for the Psychiatric-Mental Health
Nurse Practitioner/Clinical Nurse Specialist student to practice within an advanced nursing
framework. The focus is on the role of the advanced practice nurse in the health care
management of adults with psychiatric-mental health concerns. Emphasis is on collaboration
with other health care providers in a culturally diverse environment. Prerequisites: CMN 552,

CMN 556 Advanced Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing Internship 4 cr

CMN 557 Advanced Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing Seminar 2 cr
The purpose of this course is to provide a forum for the evaluation of issues and trends

analysis and manage-ment of issues by the Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner/Clinical
Nurse Specialist in an interdisciplinary health care delivery system. Prerequisites: CMN 554,

CMN 560 Advanced Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing Pharmacology Seminar 1 cr
The purpose of this seminar course is to provide advanced content in pharmacology for
the Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner/ Clinical Nurse Specialist student. The focus is
on clinical applications and pharmacokinetics of selected pharmacologic agents used with adults
with psychiatric-mental health concerns. Emphasis is on current research and trends related to the
pharmacological treatment of adults's psychiatric-mental health problems. Pre-requisite: NU 578.

CMN 568 Advanced Nursing Assessment of Children, Adults, and Families 2 cr
The purpose of this course is to expand the Family Nurse Practitioner students knowledge
and skills for obtaining and recording a systematic health assessment of children, adults, and
families. Emphasis is placed on synthesis and application of nursing and related theories and
scientific knowledge to the development of differential/nursing diagnoses as a basis for health
promotion and management. Corequisite: CMN 569.
CMN 569 Advanced Nursing Assessment of Children, Adults, and Families Practicum 1 cr
The purpose of this clinical course is to provide an environment in which the Family
Nurse Practitioner will have the opportunity to become proficient at obtaining and recording a

CMN 572 Advanced Family Nursing I 3 cr

assess, diagnose, and manage selected health care needs across the lifespan. The focus is on the
advanced practice nursing of individuals and families in primary care settings. Emphasis is
placed on wellness, and the pathophysiology and epidemiology underlying acute and chronic
health problems. Pre-requisites: CMN 568, CMN 569, NU 506. Corequisite: CMN 573.
CMN 573 Advanced Family Nursing Practicum I 3 cr
The purpose of this practicum course is to provide opportunities for the Family Nurse
Practitioner to apply concepts from CMN 572 Family Nurse Practitioner I in select clinical
settings. Focus is on individuals and families in primary care settings. The emphasis is on
diagnostic reasoning and decision making/critical thinking. Pre-requisites: CMN 568, CMN 569,

CMN 574 Advanced Family Nursing II 3 cr
The purpose of this course is to provide an in-depth study of the healthcare management
of children, adults, and families within the framework of advanced nursing. The focus is on
selected acute and chronic complex health problems of children, adults, and families in primary
health care settings. Emphasis is on the interaction among health care providers in a culturally

CMN 575 Advanced Family Nursing Practicum II 3 cr
The purpose of this course is to provide opportunity for the Family Nurse Practitioner
student to practice within an advanced nursing framework. The focus is on the role of the
advanced practice nurse in the health care management of children, adults, and families.
