| All upper division OT courses require admission to the professional component. OT 101 Introduction to Occupational Therapy 2 cr An introduction to the occupational therapy profession and the scope of occupational therapy practice. Includes self assessment and development strategies to enhance students’ readiness for the professional component of the occupational therapy curriculum. Familiarizes students with the functions, policies and services of the University, College and Department and includes an exploration of related allied health professions. OT 310 Gross Human Anatomy 5 cr A comprehensive study of human cadaver anatomy with emphasis on the nervous, skeletal, muscle, and circulatory systems. Special fee: $190.00. OT 315 Dynamics of Therapy 3 cr Theory and application of concepts basic to the occupational therapy process. Includes self-awareness, assertiveness, temporal adaptation, interpersonal and group dynamics and intra- and interprofessional communication. OT 316 Applied Neuroscience 3 cr An anatomical and physiological study of nervous system covering those topics pertinent to the practice of occupational therapy. OT 320 Occupational Development 3 cr Study of human occupational development, including developmentally appropriate roles, tasks and activities. Covers prenatal period through adolescence and young adulthood through senescence and death. Emphasis is on normal human development, with some consideration of abnormal development. OT 325 History and Philosophy of Occupational Therapy 3 cr Study of the history and development of the profession within the context of national and international events. Overview of components of philosophy and consideration of several major philosophies with emphasis upon their application to occupational therapy practice. Includes discussion of the professional association’s official statements on the philosophy of occupational therapy. OT 326 Fundamentals of Activity 2 cr An introduction to concepts of activity analysis; techniques for grading and adapting activities for therapeutic intervention; and, applications of selected occupational therapy media. Special fee: $50.00. OT 331 Clinical Conditions I 3 cr Etiology, diagnostic procedures, medical management and prognosis of selected disorders commonly referred for occupational therapy intervention. OT 332 Clinical Conditions II 3 cr Etiology, diagnostic procedures, medical management, and prognosis of selected disorders commonly referred for occupational therapy intervention. OT 334 Pharmacology in Rehab 2 cr An overview of pharmacological principles and chemotherapeutic agents commonly used by individuals requiring occupational therapy services. OT 335 Theory of Occupational Therapy (W) 3 cr Introduction to the prevalent theories and fundamental concepts guiding occupational therapy. Includes similarities and differences among major theories. Emphasizes application of these theories to professional practice in occupational therapy. Special fee: $30.00. OT 336 Occupational Assessment and Therapy I 3 cr Assessment and therapy for occupational performance and performance component dysfunction in pediatrics. Emphasizes assessment methods of interview, observation and standardized testing. Includes problem-solving and clinical reasoning as the basis for the application of techniques appropriate for occupational therapy intervention for pediatric populations in a variety of settings, including school-based programs. Corequisite: OT 337. Special fee: $30.00. OT 337 Practicum I 1 cr Observation and limited participation in clinical and community-based pediatric settings. OT 340 Neuromusculoskeletal Assessment 2 cr A review of neuromusculoskeletal structures and functions of the human body with emphasis upon the upper extremities. Evaluation of normal and abnormal function for performance of daily living tasks. Includes splint fabrication. Special fee: $25.00. OT 344 Computer Technology in OT 3 cr An introduction to microcomputer utilization in occupational therapy. Includes an examination of software, hardware and peripheral devices that facilitate computer access and productivity. Uses of computer technology in occupational therapy evaluation, treatment and administration will be explored. Special Fee: $35.00. OT 415 Management and Planning 3 cr Application of theories of organizations, supervision and management to occupational therapy program development and management in the emerging health care environment, with special emphasis on the appropriate role and use of the certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA). OT 440 Scientific Inquiry (W) 2 cr An introduction to qualitative and quantitative research concepts and methods. Critical analysis of the scientific literature, application of statistical methods and research designs, and scientific writing skills. Special fee: $15.00. OT 446 Occupational Assessment and Therapy II 3 cr Assessment and therapy for occupational performance and performance component dysfunction in the area of physical disabilities. Emphasizes assessment methods of interview, observation and standardized testing. Includes problem-solving and clinical reasoning as the basis for the application of techniques appropriate for occupational therapy intervention for populations with physical disabilities. Corequisite: OT 447. Special fee: $30.00 OT 447 Practicum II 1 cr Observation and limited participation in clinical and community-based adult rehabilitation settings. OT 450 Occupational Assessment and Therapy III 3 cr Assessment and therapy for occupational performance and performance component dysfunction in mental health and psychiatry. Emphasizes assessment methods of interview, observation and standardized testing. Includes problem-solving and clinical reasoning as the basis for the application of techniques appropriate for occupational therapy intervention for populations with psychosocial disorders in a variety of settings, including community mental health centers. The psychological and social effects of physical disability and implications for OT intervention are also discussed. Corequisite: OT 451. Special fee: $50.00. OT 451 Practicum III 1 cr Observation and limited participation in clinical and community-based mental health settings. OT 455 Clinical Education Seminar 2 cr A seminar course designed to facilitate students’ transition from didactic and part-time clinical components of the curriculum to the required full-time clinical experience. OT 460 Level II Fieldwork (A) 8 cr A directed experience in evaluation, planning and implementing occupational therapy services under the supervision of a experienced, certified occupational therapist. Designed to emphasize clinical reasoning, entry-level skill acquisition and integration of didactic knowledge with practice. OT 470 Level II Fieldwork (B) 8 cr A directed experience in evaluation, planning and implementing occupational therapy services under the supervision of an experienced, certified occupational therapist. Designed to emphasize clinical reasoning, entry-level skill acquisition and integration of didactic knowledge with practice. OT 476 Community-Based Practice 3 cr Study of assessment and therapy for occupational performance and performance component dysfunction in community-based delivery systems. Includes assessment and planning of individualized, group and population-based therapy programs. Includes problem-solving and clinical reasoning as the basis for the application of techniques appropriate for occupational therapy intervention with emphasis on the recipient of services and family as active participants and applied within multiple delivery systems. Corequisite: OT 477. Special fee: $30.00. OT 477 Community-Based Practicum 1 cr Observation and limited participation in community-based health care delivery systems. OT 480 Level II Fieldwork (C) 4-12 cr A directed experience in evaluation, planning and implementing occupational therapy services under the supervision of an experienced, certified occupational therapist. Designed to emphasize clinical reasoning, entry-level skill acquisition and integration of didactic knowledge with practice. OT 485 Clinical Reasoning in OT 2 cr A capstone course designed to integrate classroom and clinical experiences and develop clinical reasoning skills through problem-based learning. OT 490 Special Topics in OT 1-6 cr A variable topics course covering areas not available in other occupational therapy courses. A subtitle identifying the topic will be entered on the student’s record. OT 498 Independent Study in OT 1-6 cr Special studies directly relevant to the practice of occupational therapy. The student will select an area of interest in which they wish to become more proficient. A faculty member will provide guided study, supervision and assistance in developing appropriate learning experiences.
