The University of South Alabama has become a vital educational and economic leader for the upper Gulf Coast region, enhancing the community it serves through contributions in teaching, research, service and health care.
Through its classrooms, laboratories, hospitals and medical clinics, USA has led the way toward a greater level of education, improved health care, higher quality and more sustainable jobs, preservation of the region’s history and culture, and, above all, a better quality of life for all citizens.
USA’s many accomplishments in its comparatively short existence are the result of a shared concern and commitment by countless individuals who have contributed in diverse ways to the University’s success.
The University is now embarking on an historic inaugural comprehensive fund raising campaign. USA has established a goal of $75 million in private support which it will seek to raise over the next three years.
Goal:
$75 million
Campaign USA funds raised to date:
$58.6 million (as of Sept. 15, 2007)
Largest Combined Giving by Single Family in the History of Alabama Public Higher Education:
Under Campaign USA, the Mitchell family has given $22 million for USA's cancer research institute, which has been renamed the "Mitchell Cancer Research Institute." This brings Mitchell family giving to USA to $36.6 million, the largest amount given to a single public university by a single family in the state's history.
