The Student Recreation Center was officially opened spring quarter, 1992. Located next to the HPELS Building, this 48,610 square foot facility offers students, faculty, and staff a pleasant environment in which to participate in recreation and fitness activities. Contained in the Rec. Center are two basketball/volleyball courts, a weight lifting room with state of the art Cybex equipment, cardiovascular workout equipment, a 1/10-mile indoor track, six racquetball courts/handball courts, and a small games area. Enjoyment is emphasized at the University of South Alabama Student Recreation Center.
In addition to providing open recreational activities for the university community, the SouthFit program at the Rec. Center also offers daily drop-in fitness classes, fitness assessments, nutritional assessments, body fat measurements, and blood pressure screenings. SouthFit is part of a campus-wide wellness network, which has been set up to provide information and resources for fitness and health concerns. |
The Student Recreation Center is open to currently enrolled students (who have paid recreation center fees), currently employed faculty and staff, and alumni who have paid Alumni Association dues. Enrollment (with fees paid) or employment at the University automatically confers membership to the Rec. Center to an individual.*
Students, faculty, staff, and active alumni may purchase family memberships for eligible members of their immediate family. Eligible family members include a spouse or dependents between the ages of 17 and 22. Retired faculty/staff automatically receive membership at the Student Recreation Center.
Proper identification (e.g. student ID card or faculty/staff card) must be presented every visit before an individual is allowed access to the Student Recreation Center.
