History

The Council of International Student Organizations was created in 1987 in order to provide a stage for people with different cultural backgrounds to exchange ideas and cultivate relationships. CISO comprises of all the active International Student Organizations on campus and every international Student is a part of it. With over a thousand members, CISO is the third largest organization on campus after the Student Government Association (SGA) and the Office of Minority Student Affairs (OMSA).

The Organization has always been highly active. CISO made it possible for the international students to win homecoming thrice, in 1994, in 2000 and then in 2002. It takes part in all sorts of fundraisers and performs philanthropic acts as well.

The two biggest events CISO holds every year are the International Banquet and the Spring Festival. Students wait all year long for these events...

  • The International Banquet is held to appreciate the students who work hard at studies as well as extra-curricular activities. Faculty, staff and other special people at the University are also appreciated for their support towards International Students. Food from all over the world is served with style. The decoration, the entire atmosphere for that matter, is breathtaking. A fashion show is also held that night to show off the cultural outfits from different countries.

  • The Spring Festival is the best way to get acquainted with various cultures of the world. For two days, the international students exhibit their respective cultures, including food, which is prepared by Aramark and sold at a reasonable price in the Student Center Lobby. On the evening of the second day, CISO holds a Talent Show in the Student Center Cafeteria. The Talent Show is a display of dances, fashion show and skits. Spring Festival is a beautiful exhibition of lights, colors and cultures of the world.

CISO welcomes all the students on campus who want to be a part of it.
Entry into CISO is free and open to all.
