SEEDING
The core fills seeding requests on Mondays and Thursdays.
Cell orders will no longer be accepted verbally.
Order forms must be filled out and received by the core before 7:00 AM on the day of seeding.
Order forms should be filled out and left at the door.
Orders submitted after 7:00 AM may be filled at the discretion of the core.
We provide initial seeding media and plates.
We provide glass coverslips (12,15, 25 mm).
We do not provide specialty dishes (e.g. ECIS arrays, Transwells). These must be supplied to
the core prior to the day of seeding.
We do not maintain cell cultures during experiments.
Investigators who repeatedly fail to use cells seeded for them may lose seeding privileges.
Requests for PAEC cell orders of 3 million cells or more need to be made at least 1 week in advance.
This lead time is needed to ensure that sufficient cell numbers are available. If advance notice is not
given, the cells will be seeded on the next seeding date on which they become available.
Refrain from entering the isolation and cell seeding room (3325) between the hours of 9-11 AM on
Mondays and Thursdays. Interruptions during seeding increases the risk of contamination and mistakes.
CELL ISOLATIONS
During cell isolations the door to room 3414A will be locked.
Under no circumstances will anyone be allowed in the core room during that time. Don't even ask!
We will try to post isolation times in advance.
CELL CHARACTERIZATION
personnel cell characterization techniques.
We do not characterize other labs' cell lines or isolations.
MULTI USER EQUIPMENT
A Countess Automated Cell Counter has been placed in the core area for everyone to use.
Instructions for using the counter are available.
Users must provide their own slides and other supplies needed for counting.
The incubator in the core area is for cell pickup only.
Do not put cells into it or use it for experiments.
Cells left in the incubator more than 2 days are subject to disposal.
Repeated failure to pick up cells in a timely manner may result in the loss of seeding privileges.
CELL STORAGE
Cryogenic storage space will be available for 2mL vials in the new vapor phase liquid nitrogen system.
We anticipate this space becoming available after the first of the year.
The core does not prepare cells from individual labs for freezing or thawing.
We will provide instructions and teach lab personnel cell freezing/thawing techniques.
SUPPLIES
The core does not provide supplies, media, FBS, reagents, or antibodies.
We will provide catalog numbers of the supplies we use for investigators to do their own ordering.
The core does not supply liquid nitrogen.
