The Alabama Prospective Teacher Test (APTT) is required of undergraduate students seeking admission to Teacher Candidacy and is a prerequisite for students seeking admission to the Alternative Master’s program. Information about test dates and registration are available online.
PRAXIS II
The College of Education at the University of South Alabama requires successful completion of the appropriate Praxis II test prior to admission to student teaching for undergraduate and alternative master’s students. Additionally persons who complete a program and seek initial certification will be required to earn at least a specified minimum score on the appropriate Praxis II test as a precondition for certification. Official scores must be on file with the University of South Alabama and the Alabama State Department of Education. Information about test dates and registration are available online.
IDE 010
IDE 010 is the College of Education reading test required of all undergraduate education majors. Students who are seeking a second Bachelor of Science degree or students with official ACT reading scores of 19 or above are exempt from IDE 010. GRE/ MAT
Applicants to all master’s/PhD. programs in the College of Education, with the exception of those applying to programs in Educational Leadership, Health, Physical Education and Counseling will be required to submit official scores for the Graduate Record Exam (GRE)* including the analytical writing component. Applicants to graduate programs in Educational Leadership, Health, Physical Education and Counseling programs may substitute official scores on the Miller’s Analogies Test (MAT) in place of the GRE. Official scores must be received by the Office of Admissions before the file will be considered by the College of Education. Undergraduate Comprehensive Exam
Undergraduate teacher education candidates must receive a passing score on the program exit exam, a comprehensive written test designed to cover both professional studies and the teaching field. This comprehensive examination should be administered near the end to the program.
