Bio

Lieutenant Colonel Morris assumed duties as Department Chair and Professor of Military Science at the University of South Alabama in Mobile on 15 July 2015.  He was commissioned in 1994 as a Military Police officer in the United States Army as a distinguished military graduate of the Reserve Officer Training Corps program from Jacksonville State University, Jacksonville, Alabama.

After commissioning, Lieutenant Colonel Morris attended the Military Police Officer’s Basic Course at Fort McClellan, Alabama.  He then served as a platoon leader with the 212th Military Police Company, Kitzingen, Germany.  Following successful completion of the U.S. Army's Special Forces Assessment and Selection and graduation from its Special Forces Qualification Course at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Lieutenant Colonel Morris  was re-branched as a Special Forces officer.  He has served in various command and staff positions in 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Campbell, Kentucky; 1st Special Warfare Training Group (Airborne), Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Special Operations Command Central, Tampa, Florida; and Marine Corps University, Quantico, Virginia.  His previous deployments include an eleven month tour as a platoon leader in support of Operation Joint Endeavor in Bosnia; two tours, as Detachment Commander and Task Force Commander, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom; and three tours, as a Staff Officer and Company Commander, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

 


Education and Awards

Lieutenant Colonel Morris holds a Bachelor of Science in Law Enforcement from Jacksonville State University and a Master of Science in Defense Analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School. His military awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Citation, Army Superior Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, and the Parachute Badge.
