Kate Seawell earned a B.A. From Cornell University in Russian literature and English literature. She then went to graduate school in the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures at UNC at Chapel Hill. Rather than finish the graduate program, Kate chose instead to marry Henry, her husband of 40 years.

Kate began her art career as a portrait painter, working successfully at her craft for many years. A drive for artistic excellence and innovation motivated her to enroll in a B.F.A. program in painting and sculpture at the University of South Alabama. Upon completion of her B.F.A. She enrolled at Spring Hill College and garnered a M.L.A. In Fine Art. She has taught as an adjunct instructor in Art Foundations for the University of South Alabama for 16 years. Seawell's award-winning work has appeared in public and private collections in the Southeast. In 2008 Kate was named Greater Mobile Area Artist of the Year by the Mobile Arts Council.
