  • Outstanding Innovation

The goal of the Teaching Excellence Recognition Plan (TERP) is to recognize and reward faculty members who provide exemplary teaching and who demonstrate extraordinary commitment and effort in the accomplishment of the educational missions of the Department, College, and the University.

The Excellence in Teaching Awards will be funded by the College of Education and the University’s Office of Academic Affairs. Each award includes a monetary prize and a plaque.

In addition, the Lisa Mitchell Buckstein Award provides a tenure-track assistant professor in the College of Education and Professional Studies funds to advance the educational experience of the recipient.

Staff Awards

The Gerry Jean Clark Exemplary Staff Award was established in 2010 upon the retirement of Ms. Clark after 25 years of committed service to the College of Education and the University of South Alabama. The Award recognizes and rewards a staff member who has provided exemplary service to the College of Education and who has demonstrated extraordinary commitment and effort in the accomplishment of assigned duties consistent with the educational missions of the Department, College, and University.

One Award will be made annually. The award will be funded by the College of Education and Professional Studies and include a monetary prize and a plaque.

Student Awards

In 1978 the College of Education held its first Honors and Awards Reception to recognize the outstanding undergraduate and graduate students in each department.  This reception has since been held every year as a way of honoring exceptional students in the college. Faculty members gather each spring semester to discuss the standout students in their programs and select a winner for each of their departmental awards.  Recipients are then presented with their awards at an evening reception in the presence of their peers, faculty, family and friends.  This is a time-honored tradition and special experience for everyone that attends.
