Below is a list of scholarships for incoming Engineering students.  These scholarships are awarded by the College of Engineering and would be in addition to any academic scholarships awarded by USA's Office of Enrollment Services (i.e. Presidential, Bay Area, PTK Transfer, etc.). 

You may apply for University scholarships online using Jag$POT, USA's Scholarship Program Opportunity Tracker.

▼   Jubilee BEST Robotics Scholarship - Incoming Freshman

High school seniors participating in the Mobile, Alabama BEST Robotics Competition are eligible to apply for USA's BEST Scholarship. The application will be available from your high school counselor Fall semester. The deadline is provided by the Jubilee BEST committee.

▼   Undergraduate Research Summer Opportunity - Incoming Freshmen

This is a $1,500 research stipend to be used Summer semester following freshman or sophomore year. The undergraduate research will take place at the University of South Alabama with a College of Engineering faculty member.

This opportunity is based on ACT scores and high school GPA, and there is no application required. Students need to apply and be admitted to the university by January 1 of their senior year. Students selected will be notified by letter and email to their JagMail account.

▼   Alabama Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation Scholarship - Incoming Freshmen or Transfer (ALSAMP)

The Alabama LSAMP Scholarship is designed to support underrepresented students pursuing science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) baccalaureate degree programs. This is a $4,000 scholarship for the first year at USA.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Incoming freshmen must have a high school GPA of 2.75 or higher
  • Transfer students must have a transfer GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Must attend Math Bridge Program (week before Fall term begins) – registration paid if selected as ALSAMP scholarship recipient
  • Undergraduate research during the semesters receiving the scholarship
  • Present a research poster at the annual ALSAMP Scholars Spring Conference

▼   USA LINK Scholarship - Incoming Transfer Students

The USA LINK Scholarship is a $5,000/year scholarship for incoming transfer students majoring in Engineering at USA. This scholarship is awarded for the Fall semester.

Engineering Scholarship for Students at Community Colleges

▼   ASCENT Community College Scholarship

The ASCENT Scholarship supports a student while attending an Alabama Community College who will transfer to an engineering or science program at USA or another Alabama university to complete their degree. It provides up to $3,000 per semester toward tuition, fees, textbooks, and campus housing for courses that will transfer to the university and apply to a STEM degree.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Must be eligible for Calculus I or higher mathematics courses
  • Must have completed the Federal Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • Must be in a pre-engineering or pre-science curriculum at an Alabama Community College with an intent to complete an engineering or science degree

Students in demographic groups traditionally under-represented in engineering or science are particularly encouraged to apply for these scholarships.

This scholarship is applied to the semesters a student is attending the community college. The award does not transfer to a four-year institution.
