Please join the University of South Alabama Wind Ensemble, under the baton of Director of Bands, Dr. Will Petersen, in their second concert of the 2014-2015 season. The performance will take place in the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center Recital Hall on Thursday, November 13 at 7:30 p.m. The event is titled "Songs and Dances," and will feature the music of Eric Whitacre, John Barnes Chance, Phillip Sparke, and Percy Grainger.

The Wind Ensemble will begin the concert with "Noisy Wheels of Joy," a frolicking work by Whitacre written in 1999 for the ASCAP Film Scoring Workshop.  The concert continues with the final composition of John Barnes Chance, the haunting "Elegy," composed shortly before his death in 1972. To close the first half of the concert, the USA Wind Ensemble will present Percy Grainger's monumental "Lincolnshire Posy." Composed in 1937 for the American Bandmasters Association, the work is widely considered one the most influential compositions for the wind band.  The concert concludes after a short intermission with Philip Sparke's virtuosic 1997 composition, "Dance Movements."
