The Alabama Beta Chapter was pleased to host a 2009 Visiting Professorship with Dr. Faith Fitzgerald, University of California Davis School of Medicine, Professor of Medicine and Associate Dean of Humanities and Bioethics. Dr. Fitzgerald is renowned in her field and serves on the Editorial Board of A?A Pharos Magazine. Dr. Fitzgerald presented several lectures for faculty and students on “Ethical Standards.” Two other presentations were titled “The Virtual Patient” and the “Magical Medical History Tour.” She was also the invited speaker for the Fetterman Memorial Lecture, hosted by Providence Hospital.
The Induction Banquet for new members was hosted at the Mobile Country Club. The new inductees are:

Dr. Terry A. Kurtts, received the Volunteer Clinical Faculty Award recognizing his contributions to medical education. Dr. Kurtts practices family medicine in Elberta, Alabama.
Seniors Scott T. Watson will serve as the 2009-10 President for the Beta Chapter and Sarah Silver Payne as Vice-President. John B. Bass, Jr. M.D., Distinguished Professor of Internal Medicine, is the Alabama Beta Chapter Councilor.
AOA members are encouraged to support the Alabama USA Beta Chapter through an annual assessment of $25 and to stay active in the national organization.
