Medical Alumni Weekend 2009
The Medical Alumni Association hosted another beautiful weekend at Orange Beach for the annual Alumni Weekend featuring reunion classes (1979, 1984, 1989, 1994, 1999 and 2004). All medical graduates graduates of the College of Medicine, faculty and former USAMC housestaff are encouraged to participate in the sponsored CME programs and social activities. This year, as in past years, with the exception of CME programs, all events are family inclusive.
Speakers and topics for the CME program included Dr. Karen Fagan, Associate Professor of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at USA “Cough in Adults”; Dr. Forrest Ringold with the Surgical Association of Mobile on “Update on Bariatric Procedures”; Dr. Dean Naritoku, new chairman of the USA Department of Neurology on “Identification of Seizure Types and Loss of Consciousness”; Dr. Lamar Duffy, Assistant Professor with USA Family Medicine “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to a Marathon”; and Dr. Amy Morris with the Center for Dermatology, P.C., “Garden Variety Dermatology.” Alumni evaluations following the program indicate exceptional presentations.
Dr. Tom Montgomery, President of the Medical Alumni Association, presented Dr. Sam Strada, Dean of the College of Medicine, with a $10,000 check for the Medical Alumni Scholarship Endowment Fund. The association also honored Dr. Wanda Kirkpatrick with the Distinguished Alumni Service Award for her many years of clinical teaching. Dr. Kirkpatrick retired this year from the Department of Internal Medicine/Nephrology Division. The final event for the weekend was an outside buffet luau with music and dancing.
The 2010 Alumni Reunion Weekend is scheduled for June 4-6 at the Perdido Beach Resort, Orange Beach, AL. Mark your calendar now and start making plans to attend!
