Collects data on clinical pathology problems and consults with staff concerning appropriate diagnosis and treatment. Demonstrates how to perform basic immunopathology procedures, histochemical procedures, electron microscopy, cytogenetic procedures, molecular pathology procedures, microbiology procedures, blood banking/transfusion, chemical pathology, hematology and toxicology.

Clinical Invasive: The resident examines and describes basic surgical specimens microscopically*. Dictates basic surgical pathology diagnosis. Performs basic autopsies, formulating final clinical and anatomic diagnoses*. Dictates autopsy findings to be placed in the permanent medical record*. Describes steps of fine needle aspiration for cytological diagnosis. Describes steps of dermatological biopsies.

Required Supervision: *Requires Supervision by a Teaching (Faculty) Physician or Upper Level Resident determined by the individual resident level of performance.
