An ongoing initiative at the University of South Alabama Hospitals (USAH) is the development of a GME Curriculum within and across the USAH residency and fellowship programs and assist in supporting the framework of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education’s (ACGME) general competencies. This page is to ensure quality of patient care while training tomorrow’s physicians.

ACGME CORE COMPETENCIES FOR GRADUATE MEDICAL EDUCATION

To assist programs in the implementation and evaluation of core competencies the ACGME has created “Educating Physicians for the 21st Century,” this is a series of five PowerPoint presentations with a Facilitator’s Manual. The Facilitator’s Manual contains speaker notes and discussion questions to help Program Directors give these presentations during faculty meetings or educational retreats. Patient Care: Residents must be able to provide patient care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for the treatment of health problems and the promotion of health. Some recommended resources that may assist in this area are as follows:
