SAV Pre-Installation instructions for Windows

Uninstall all AntiVirus products

  • Click the "Start" button

  • Select "Control Panel"

  • Double click on the "Add/Remove Programs" icon

  • Click the"Change or Remove Progams" button on the side of the window

  • In the list of currently installed programs select the program to uninstall and click the "Add/Remove" button. One or more of these programs may be installed. It is VERY important that you remove all non-Symantec AntiVirus products or the installation may not work.

    • Command
    • Norton
    • McAfee
  • Uninstall any Symantec Antivirus applications. If it asks for a password, the password is symantec
  • Restart the PC

For Windows XP systems
Verify that the TCP/IP DNS suffix is set properly

  • Click the "Start" button and then right click on "My Network Places" and select "Properties"

  • Right click on the "Local Area Connection" icon and select "Properties" to open the "Local Area Connection Properties" dialog box. If the "General" tab is not active, select it. You should see something similar to the image below. Note: Your window will be slightly different, this is only an example.

  • In the list of the various types of components select the one that says TCP/IP and click the "Properties" button to open the "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties".
  • If "Obtain an IP address automatically" is selected stop here. Otherwise, click the "Advanced" button. If the "DNS" tab is not active, select it. You should see something similar to the image below.

  • Check that the "Append these DNS Suffixes" radio button is selected and that "usouthal.edu" is included in the DNS Suffix list. If it is not there, add it by doing the following:
  • Click the "Add" button

  • Type "usouthal.edu" in the empty box

  • Click the "Add" button

  • Click the "OK" button twice and then close all windows to return to the desktop.

For Windows Vista systems
Verify that the TCP/IP DNS suffix is set properly

  • Click the "Start" button and right click on "Network" and select "Properties"

  • You should see:
  • On the Connection line click "View Status" You should see:
  • Click on the "Properties" button. You should see:
  • Click "Properties" to open the "Local Area Connection Properties" dialog box. Click on the "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" lineYou should see something similar to the image below. Note: Your window will be slightly different, this is only an example.
  • Click the "Properties" button. You should see:
  • Click the "Advanced" button to bring up the Advanced dialog box. Click the "DNS" tab and the dialog box should look like:
  • Once the setting have been checked and verified, close all the network dialog boxes and install Symantec AntiVirus.
