Academic Computing will conduct the following series of faculty/staff computer workshops throughout Summer 2009. All classes will be held in the Seminar Room at the Computer Services Center and advanced registration is required. Banner General Navigation class

This course will introduce you to the Banner interface and functions.  You will learn the Banner naming conventions for forms, tables, jobs, and reports; proper navigation techniques, setting search parameters in queries, and editing information in the forms. This is a hands-on training in general navigation through Banner 7.4.  Pre-requisites: Supervisor approval

Introduction to Banner Reports

This course will introduce you to the Banner Reports interface and options. You will learn to set up report parameters, save parameter sets, run, preview, save, print, and electronically distribute Banner reports. This is a hands-on training in Banner 7.4. Pre-requisites: Banner General Navigation class.

Managing Your GroupWise E-mail Account

This course will outline essential procedures for maintaining your email account. You will learn how to change your password, view and save your messages, sort them by date or subject, forward them to other recipients or send images, spreadsheets, and other files as attachments to your email messages.  You will learn how to search for particular email by setting up filters and how to archive messages for later use.  Pre-requisites: none.

GroupWise Calendars & Collaboration Features

This course will teach you how to use the built-in GroupWise calendars for effective collaboration on group projects and meeting management.  You will learn how to invite people to meetings, set up tasks and appointments, and specify advanced attributes for your messages (delayed delivery, expiration date, notification, etc.).  Learn how to set up an auto-reply and how to schedule recurring events. Pre-requisites:  working knowledge of GroupWise or having attended “Managing Your GroupWise E-mail Account” class.

Introduction to Excel  2007 (Part I)

This course will provide an overview of the Excel 2007 interface and the fundamentals of manipulating worksheets and workbooks. Learn the basic skills necessary to create spreadsheets, including entering, editing, and formatting data and formulas. Learn how to navigate and view multiple worksheets and to access the on-line help while working with Excel 2007.

Formulae and Functions in Excel (Part II)

This intermediate course will focus on working with formulas and functions in Excel. Learn to use Relative, Absolute, and Mixed References and 3-D addresses. Explore most common functions like AutoSum, CountIF, and LookUp. Learn to create and edit Charts. Learn more about Styles, Page Breaks and Print options. Pre-requisites: working knowledge of Excel 2007 or having attended “Introduction to Excel 2007 (Part I)” class.

If-Analysis and LookUp functions in Excel 2007 (Part III)

This course will focus on “nested” If-analysis and working with LookUp functions. We will also explore some statistical and text functions like CountA, CountIF, Clean, Trim, and Concatenate. We will look at several options for conditional formatting of your data. And finally, we will review various options for electronic distribution of your Excel files. Pre-requisites: intermediate level of Excel 2007 knowledge or having attended “Formulae & Functions in Excel 2007 (Part II)” class.

Forms in Microsoft Word 2007

Do you ever create a form that looks great on paper but shifts around on the page when you type in the blanks?  Learn to create a Word document with field positions that are fixed and formatted so the user can type only in the designated areas.  Explore the use of simple table tools along with developer tools that help you gain control of these unruly objects. Pre-requisites: working knowledge of Word 2007.

Charts in Excel 2007 (Part IV)

This class will introduce easy ways to create and edit Charts in Excel 2007. You will learn to plan, design, and format worksheets and charts, apply Styles and Themes, rotate text and work with number format symbols. We will look at ways to insert your charts in Power Point presentations and convert them to Web pages. Pre-requisites: working knowledge of Excel 2007 or having attended “Introduction to Excel 2007” class.
