Post Retirement Employment
A TRS retiree employed with a TRS or ERS member agency may continue to receive full retirement benefits provided the retired member meets both of the following conditions:
- The retiree must not be employed or under contract for permanent, full time employment.
- The retiree’s salary cannot exceed the limitations on earnings. The limits are subject to change each year based upon the Consumer Price Index (CPI).
Retired employees returning to work with the University of South Alabama remain off payroll for at least one month. Faculty Department Chairs and/or Administrators (110) may not be re-employed by the University (State Ethics) for at least 2 years.
A TRS retiree who returns to employment full-time with a TRS member agency must have his or her retirement benefit suspended until he or she withdraws from service again.Any questions concerning postretirement law should be directed to the TRS.
