RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZING THE WORK OF DR. RICHMOND BROWN, THE SENATE AD HOC COMMITTEE ON FOOTBALL, AND PRESIDENT MOULTON

WHEREAS, the faculty had a substantial stake in the development of division I-A football

WHEREAS, the initiation of such a program could have had an enormous impact on the fiscal and academic health of the institution, and

WHEREAS, the issue was emotionally-charged and influenced by misinformation

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED the FACULTY SENATE recognizes and commends the work of the Senate Ad Hoc Committee on Football (Drs. Richmond Brown, Chair, David Bowers, Douglas Haywick, Stephen Kayes, Stephen Morris, James Norman and Cindy Stanfield) for their contributions to the debate.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED the FACULTY SENATE further commends the diligent work of DR. RICHMOND BROWN for representing the academic interests of the faculty on this issue and shaping the debate and the decision making process.

AND in addition, the FACULTY SENATE acknowledges and endorses the mode by which the Faculty Senate in this case helped the university cut through the emotional issues, address in a realistic manner the scope and implications of Division I-A football, and establish a decision making process that allowed for periodic tests of support and points of exit.

MOREOVER, the FACULTY SENATE commends the work of President Moulton for representing the academic interests of the institution on this matter, for maintaining strict control of the process, for allowing all stakeholders to participate in the discussion, and for ensuring a fair and systematic decision-making process.
