SEPTEMBER 26: Spring Only 2018 housing contract available online

Once admitted to South and the contract is available, apply for housing by following the steps below:

  1. Use your Jag Number (J00...) and your JagMail password to login to southalabama.edu/MyUSAHousing.
  2. Select 'Apply Now' button in the center of the home page
  3. Select the 'Spring Only 2018' Contract Term and click 'Save & Continue'
  4. Complete the steps below. More detailed information can be found in My USAHousing.
      • Review the Personal Details section for accuracy and answer questions
      • Provide Emergency and Missing Persons Contact Info
      • Complete your Roommate Profile and Questionnaire
      • Review and accept the Housing Contract Terms & Conditions (if under 19, parent/guardian agreement required)
      • Pay your $150 Housing Prepayment
      • Select your Residential Meal Plan (required)
      • Select/Rank your Room Preferences
      • Submit Contract - Your contract is NOT complete until you finish this step!

'SPRING ONLY 2018' ROOM ASSIGNMENTS
Room assignments for new spring semester students are made in mid-December based on the student's contract completion date. USA Housing will assign your room, taking into consideration your selected preferences - based on space availability at time of assignment.  After assignments are made an email will be sent to your University email (JagMail) with instructions on how to view your assignment inside My USAHousing.

'SPRING ONLY 2018' ROOMMATE ASSIGNMENTS
Space is more limited for new spring semester assignments, which may prevent us from accommodating specific roommate requests. However, if you have someone in mind, you may submit a roommate request (see instructions below) and we will make every effort to accommodate your request. If you do not submit a roommate request, we will use your selected room preferences to guide us in making your assignment, based on availability. 

Roommate Request Instructions: Roommate requests may be submitted by sending your full name and Jag number as well as the full name and Jag number of your preferred roommate in an email to housing@southalabama.edu. Please keep in mind all roommate requests must be mutual and in writing so your requested roommate will also need to send us an email requesting you as their roommate OR list you on their housing contract when submitted.

PAYMENT DEADLINE
Your housing and meal plan charges will be added to your student account once your assignment has been made. All University charges, including housing and meal plan charges, are typically due by the 3rd business day of the week prior to classes each semester. Summer Only 2018 Housing Contract Available to new students: Mid-to-late January 2018

All students planning to enroll for Summer 2018 courses at South who are seeking campus housing should login to southalabama.edu/MyUSAHousing and complete a 'Full Summer 2018' housing contract (your Jag Number and JagMail password is required for access).

After logging in, complete the steps below. More detailed information can be found in My USAHousing 

  • Review the Personal Details section for accuracy and answer questions

SUMMER 2017 HOUSING AVAILABILITY
Summer 2018 Housing Availability posted here by December 2017.
Each summer, a select few residence halls are designated for summer student housing. This allows summer students the opportunity to have a better residential community experience; at the same time, it allows our Housing Facilities team to go through each hall and perform any necessary repairs, renovations, or upgrades.

  • Delta 5 Rooms for 2 (rooms 125-142, 225-242 only)
  • Stokes Hall Suite-Style for 1 (rooms will filled 1 floor at a time, beginning with the 1st floor)

ASSIGNMENTS
All students who complete the 'Full Summer 2018' contract by May 15 will receive their summer room assignment by close of business on May 17th. Notice of assignment and how to view it will be sent to each student's JagMail.

USA Housing will make assignments for ALL summer students, including current residents, in order to ensure best match between summer and fall 2017 room assignments where applicable.

BEFORE summer room assignments are made residents should return to the 'Room Preferences' step of their 'Full Summer 2018' contract and ensure the room type currently listed for 'Preference 1' is the most preferred room type of those being offered (see 'Summer 2018 Housing Availability' above - once available).

SPRING CLOSING / SUMMER MOVE-IN
Spring residents are required to vacate the residence halls between spring closing and summer opening
- UNLESS - the student is enrolled in May Semester 2018 classes and has registered for Break Housing by April 17th (click here for Late Stay / Break Housing info).

The residence halls open for summer on Friday, May 25th. The email students receive regarding their room assignment on May 17 will also include details about summer move-in (location, times, etc.).

For Academic Year 2018 - 2019

Once admitted to South, apply for housing as soon as possible! Students who complete their Academic Year housing contract by March 1 will be eligible to self-select their own room assignment. The earlier you complete your contract, the earlier you will have access to self-assign - Earlier access to Room Selection means larger selection of rooms to select from. Review the info below for key deadlines and more details. We offer two types of room assignment processes for the academic year contract term:

  • Housing Contract completed by March 1 (see Checklist 1 below): You will be invited to assign yourself during the ‘Room Selection’ process (mid April). Eligible students will receive notice via JagMail of their time slot (early April) with further instructions as to how to participate in Room Selection. Your specific time slot (day and time) will be determined by the date your housing contract was completed. During your invited time, you select your exact room from what’s available at the time of your participation. Those who choose not participate in Room Selection will be assigned by USA Housing AFTER closing Room Selection.
  • Housing Contract completed after March 1 (see Checklist 2 below): USA Housing will assign your hall and room, taking into consideration your selected preferences - based on availability. If your roommate is in the self-assign group they can ‘pull’ you into a room with them during Room Selection (based on space availability at the time of their participation).

Checklist 1 - Student Selects the Room Assignment

SEPTEMBER 6: Academic Year 2018-2019 housing contract available online

  • Find a preferred roommate through the roommate search program in My USAHousing (optional) - 'all within the 'Manage Roommates' step
  • Preferred roommates must be requested and accepted BEFORE you participate in 'Room Selection' (if applicable)*

MARCH 1 @ 11:59 PM: Deadline to complete Academic Year 2018-2019 housing contract in order to participate in Room Selection.

  • Students should monitor JagMail for notice of time slot to participate in ‘Room Selection’ (see date below).
  • Eligible students will be able to self-select their exact room from what’s available at the time of their participation.

MARCH 30: Monitor your JagMail for notice of your 'Room Selection' time slot with further instructions as to how to participate in Room Selection. Time slots are generated based on the date of contract completion.

APRIL: ROOM SELECTION

  • For students who completed their Academic Year 2018-2019 housing contract by March 1.
  • Eligible students should refer to their specific time slot notice sent via JagMail (March 30) for further instructions.
  • Students will have 15 minutes from the beginning of their time slot to select a room before the next time slot opens (i.e. available rooms will continue to decrease). While eligible students are encouraged to login and participate during their exact time slot, they will be able to participate from the beginning of their time slot until 11:59 PM on May 1.
  • AFTER SELECTING AN INITIAL ROOM RESERVATION, students will be able to search for a DIFFERENT AVAILABLE SPACE using the Room Swap section of the Room Selection page in My USAHousing (available until July 1 @ 11:59 PM).

JULY 1 @ 11:59 PM:

  • ROOM SELECTION / ROOM SWAP CLOSES. Students seeking a room change after this date must wait until the After Fall Move-In Room Change Request Period (9/3/18 - 9/5/18).
  • MANAGE ROOMMATES / ROOMMATE SEARCH CLOSES. Space is MUCH more limited after this date, preventing the ability to accommodate specific roommate requests.

JUNE - JULY: 

Early-AUGUST:

  • Start to pack! Be sure to review our What to Bring checklist
  • Complete your payment for the full amount of tuition, housing room, and meal plan (online in PAWS) - typically due by the 3rd business day of the week prior to classes each semester. Visit USA's Academic Calendar to learn the exact date.

AUGUST 18: RESIDENCE HALLS OPEN FOR FALL 2018. Students will receive Move-In info via JagMail over the summer (New Students will receive a copy of the Move-In Guide when they attend Orientation). See Moving In page for details (will be updated in April or May 2018).


Checklist 2 - USA Housing Makes the Room Assignment
For those who complete their 'Academic Year 2018-2019' housing contract AFTER March 1

  2. Select 'Apply Now' button in the center of the home page
  3. Select the 'Academic Year 2018-2019' Contract Term and click 'Save & Continue'

      • Provide Emergency and Missing Persons Contact Info

Early-AUGUST:

  • USA Housing will continue making room assignments as needed for students who completed their Academic Year 2018-2019 housing contract after 3/1/18 and were not previously assigned taking into consideration their selected preferences - based on date of contract completion and space availability at time of assignment. JagMail notice will be sent once assigned.
AUGUST 18: RESIDENCE HALLS OPEN FOR FALL 2018. Students will receive Move-In info via JagMail over the summer (New Students will receive a copy of the Move-In Guide when they attend Orientation). See Moving In page for details (will be updated in April or May 2018).
