Jag Health Team
The Jag Health Team (JHT) is a student organization at the University that focuses
on health, wellness and safety issues on campus. JHT is a peer health education program
whose purpose is to promote a healthy campus environment and to empower students to
achieve optimal health through health related programming and activities. The Jag
Health Team collaborates with other University organizations and groups to improve
the health knowledge, attitude and behavior regarding health of students.
Jag Health Peer Educator
Jag Health Peer Educators (JHPEs) are responsible student leaders who provide their
peers with information and support to encourage healthy lifestyle choices. JHPEs are
trained to educate peers on health and wellness issues in a positive, interactive,
fun and nonjudgmental manner. Jag Health Peer Educators help coordinate health events,
facilitate activities, disseminate information and develop promotional material.
Benefits of Becoming a JHPE
There are many benefits to being a Jag Health Peer Educator including meeting new people, receiving comprehensive training and serving as a resource, advocate and role model for peers. Jag Health Peer Educators also develop teaching, communication, presentation and group facilitation skills that will be invaluable in future professional endeavors.
Requirements for Application
- Must be a current USA student
- Must have a genuine interest in promoting healthy behavior among peers
- Must be willing to commit 2-3 hours per month
- Must have a 2.0 GPA
- Must be in good standing academically and judicially
Peer Educators will be trained in a variety of topics including:
- Alcohol and Substance Abuse
- Contraception Choices
- Healthy Relationships
- Self Esteem
- Sexual Violence
- Sexually Transmitted Diseases
If you are interested in becoming a member of the Jag Health Team, you must register on OrgSync and request to join the JHT. You will also need to complete a Jag Health Peer Educator application and return it to the Student Health Center Health Education Department. The Health Education Coordinator or the JHT President will contact you to schedule a casual interview to discuss your application. JHPE applications are available by request via email or in the Student Health Center.
