I was born in Mardan and brought up in Kanpur. After completing my primary and secondary education, I was selected for admission to the Undergraduate Chemical Engineering program at Harcourt Butler Technological Institute (HBTI), incepted by British in 1921 in Kanpur, India. I completed my BS degree in 1967 and the MS degree in Chemical Engineering Practice in 1969. I was awarded a Gold Medal for securing the top rank in the MS degree program. I came to the University of Mississippi in September 1969 where I completed my Ph.D. degree in 1974. I served in the chemical industry for eight years before joining the Chemical Engineering Department at the University of South Alabama in 1983 as an Associate Professor. I was promoted to Full Professor in 1991. I received the Haliburton Education Foundation Award for excellence in Research in 1985 and College of Engineering Excellence in Teaching Award in 2009. I served as a Plant manager in manufacturing and as a Senior Process Research Engineer for a large consulting engineering firm in Montreal, Canada. My academic research in supercritical fluids resulted in the first US Patent in the College of Engineering in 1995.
