Congratulations to Undergraduate Research Assistat Richard Cullum who has been selected to give an oral presentation at the 2011 UCUR Research Symposium. Richard was selected based on the quality of his written paper on using COSMO-RS to model vapor/liquid equilibrium related to anesthetic gas capture recycle. Richard will present his research on Thursday, October 20th.

For the second time in 10 days our group has recieved notice of an NSF Award! This award is an Major Research Instrumentation (MRI) award (Award #1126597, $361,923 over 3 years) for the project "MRI: Acquisition of an Intelligent Gravimetric Analyzer to Characterize Gas Absorption Properties of Ionic Liquids for Energy and Environmental Applications." Drs. W. Matthew Reichert and James H. Davis, Jr., both of the Chemistry Department, are co-PIs on the award. The instrumentation acquired through this award will significantly enhance our ability to measure gas/liquid equilibria, specifially related to CO2 capture using task-specific ionic liquids. Read more about this award on the NSF award page.

Our group, along with Dr. Jim Davis in Chemistry, has been awarded an NSF research grant (Award #1133101, $238,522 over 3 years ) for our project entitled "Understanding the Thermophysical and Solvent Properties of Lipid-Inspired Ionic Liquids." The grant will fund our research in this area over the next three years. Read more about this project on the NSF award page or see our research section.
