Thinking about some graduate classes?

Seeking Professional Development Hours?

Need advanced engineering knowledge and some business know-how?

Interested in a Masters degree with a non-thesis option?

Consider graduate work in the Mechanical Engineering
Department at the University of South Alabama!

You may be interested in taking graduate courses for any one of the reasons listed below::

    1. You can enroll as a non-degree student and take one course or more for professional growth. This could help you do your job better. Should you later decide to work towards a MS degree, up to 15 semester hours of non-degree course work would count towards the MS degree.
    2. If you are a P.E. in the state of Alabama, taking one graduate course per year will more than meet the Alabama requirement for Professional Development Hours (PDH).
    3. If a MS degree is a personal goal, we offer three plans of study: thesis, project, and coursework only options. All three plans require a total of 33 semester hours for graduation. The new coursework only option was developed for full time engineers seeking advanced engineering knowledge but who don’t always have the time for a thesis or project.

Most of our graduate courses are offered in the late afternoon or evenings to accommodate full time employed engineers. Our degree plan is flexible; of the 33 hours required for graduation, a minimum of 21 hours must be in engineering with the remainder in supporting areas. These areas include mathematics, natural sciences, basic medical sciences, computer sciences, statistics, and business.

You can enter our graduate program as a regular graduate student with an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or greater. If your undergraduate GPA is between 2.5 and 3.0, provisional status can be granted; your status would be upgraded to regular standing upon the satisfactory completion of 9-15 semester hours. Our program can be entered at any of the semester breaks throughout the year, although fall is generally considered the best time to start.

For information, contact Dr. Donovan (Graduate Coordinator) at the ME Department, EGCB 212, University of South Alabama, Mobile, AL 36688. The phone number is (251) 460-6168; fax number is (251) 460-6549.

APPLICATION FOR DEGREE
Each candidate for the Master’s degree must make application for the degree during the semester preceding the semester of graduation, in the Registrar’s Office. The dates are specified in the University Calendar.
