This lab supports ME 336, a one-credit hour, junior-level materials science lab course. Equipment include: a Charpy Impact Tester, two Rockwell Hardness Testers, a Brinell Hardness Tester, two metallography stations, a Nikon optical microscope supported by a video camera, Noesis Image Analysis Software and a 90MHz Pentium PC, a EG&G Model 273 Potentiostat/ Galvanostat supported by Model 342 SoftCorr corrosion software, and three muffle furnaces (up to 2,200 degrees Fahrenheit).

  

Strengths of Materials Laboratory  

The Mechanics of Materials Laboratory at the University of South Alabama has the following equipment:
  • 14 Dell computers with Windows XP and numerous engineering software
  • HP laserjet printers
  • Tinius-Olsen Universal Testing Machine, 60,000 lb. capacity
  • Omega Data Acquisition System
  • Vishay Strain Gage Data Acquisition
