   Computational Mechanics Lab Computer Facilities

The primary purpose of the lab is to provide computer facilities for graduate level instruction and research. Capabilities provided through the facility include the ability to record time-accurate results onto video-tape in a frame-by-frame manner.

A wide range of commercial and locally written software is available on the machines. The commercial software includes CFD packages CFD-ACE NEKTON and Fluent, and graphics packages Tecplot, Fieldview and FAST. Mathematica and Matlab are also available, as are Fortran 77, Fortran 90 and C compilers. The lab is linked through the Alabama Research and Education Network (AREN) to the Alabama Supercomputer Center's Cray C94. Faculty members and their student research assistants are provided with Cray accounts through the Supercomputer Center.

The following hardware is available in the Computational Mechanics Lab:

SGI Power Indigo2 w/Extreme Graphics; 192MB RAM; 4GByte HD
Sun Sparc 5 and Sparc 10 workstations
Three Sun and HDS X-Terminals
3 - 120 Mhz Pentium Gateway PC with HP printer
