South Alabama Sponsored J-1 Extension of Stay
Important
Notice:
This
information does not apply to students and scholars whose visa
documents are not issued by South Alabama (e.g., ECFMG, etc.).
NOTE: As of August, 2002, the Form IAP-66 was replaced by the
Form DS-2019.
If you are a J-1 student or
scholar whose DS-2019 will expire within the next three (3)
months, you must apply for an extension at least 30 days before
the expiration date in Item 3 of your DS-2019. If you are a J-1
student whose DS-2019 will not expire within three (3) months
but whose work authorization will expire, you also must apply
for an extension of your work authorization at least 30 days
before your current work authorization expires. The information
below describes the materials that must be submitted to the
Office of Enrollment Services in order for you to obtain an
extension. You must submit the required materials within the
time limits discussed above. Please note that if you are unable
to secure your extension before your current DS-2019 expires,
you will be subject to termination or mandatory unpaid leave
from South Alabama.
SCHOLARS
WHOSE DS-2019 FORMS WILL EXPIRE WITHIN THREE (3) MONTHS:
Your department must take the
first step by submitting an extension request to the Office of
Enrollment Services.
You need to:

Check
with your departmental administration to determine the
internal process for approving an extension at the
departmental level. |
|
2. |
Confirm
that the department has submitted an extension request to
the Office of Enrollment Services. |
After the extension request
has been submitted to the Office of Enrollment Services, you
will be issued a new DS-2019 Form.
