News ReleasesUpdate for Med-Surg Nurses Set

University of South Alabama Medical Center will present Med-Surg Update 2003, a daylong workshop for health care providers, from 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., October 17 at the Mobile Marriott Hotel, 3100 Airport Blvd. The program, approved for 8.1 continuing education units, is designed to provide up-to-date information about current issues facing nurses in the acute care hospital setting.

Topics to be presented include: What's New in Stroke Care? by Dr. Richard Zwiefler, associate professor of Neurology and director of the USA Stroke Center; The New Epidemics: SARS and Other Diseases, by Dr. Kevin Green, assistant professor of medicine, USA Division of Infectious Diseases; Fundamentals in Skin and Wound Care, by Rigg Curtis, RN, MS, clinical nurse specialist with the USA Regional Burn and Wound Center; Tuberculosis, Mummies and Vampires: An Interrupted History of Man, Cows and the Arts, presented by Dr. John Bass, professor and chair of the USA Department of Internal Medicine and director of USA's Medical Residency Program; and Congestive Heart Failure, presented by Dr. Clara Massey, associate professor of Medicine, medical director of the USA Heart Station and director of USA's cardiology fellowship program.

Registration is $75 in advance and $85 at the door. USA employees can attend for $30. A $15 processing fee will be charged for cancellations received less than one week before the program.
