Dr. Juvonda Hodge Recipient of Women of Achievement Award

Dr. Juvonda Hodge, assistant professor of surgery at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine, was recently awarded the Rising Star award by the YWCA of Greater Mobile. This award was presented at the YWCA’s 10th annual Women of Achievement Awards Benefit Luncheon.
Alberta Davis, CEO of YWCA of Greater Mobile explained, “These women embody excellence and perseverance and have enhanced the quality of life for all Mobilians.”

Hodge, the first African-American female surgeon to practice in Mobile, works closely with the community to support increased knowledge about health issues. In addition to teaching and caring for patients, Hodge serves as the chapter advisor for the Student National Medical Association. |

Hodge, an Alabama native, is a graduate of Spelman College in Atlanta and the New Jersey Medical School, Newark, N.J. She has special interest in oncology, laparoscopy and biliary surgery. |
