Colonial Mall Bel Air's Think Pink Breast Cancer Awareness Event

Dr. Adam Riker, chief of surgical oncology at University of South Alabama Mitchell Cancer Institute, will be speaking at Colonial Mall Bel Air’s Think Pink Breast Cancer Awareness event on October 26.

Riker is one of several area cancer specialists who will be speaking at this community event. The event, to be held in the Target wing from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., will be a celebration of breast cancer survivors and those continuing to fight the disease.

In addition to speakers, there will be refreshments, a tribute tree, and seminars promoting awareness of breast cancer. Admission is free, but RSVP is required before October 24. Guests will receive giveaways, door prizes, gift certificates and more.

According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is second only to skin cancer in the number of cases among women. It is the second leading cause of cancer death after lung cancer. About 213,000 women in the United States will be found to have invasive breast cancer in 2006 and approximately 41,000 women will die from the disease this year. Presently, there are more than 2 million women living in the United States who have been treated for breast cancer. It is notable that breast cancer death rates have dropped. This decline is attributed to earlier detection and improved treatments.

For more information, or to RSVP, please call (251) 478-1893 or stop by Colonial Mall Bel Air’s Customer Service Desk.
