USA Mitchell Cancer Institute Welcomes New Researcher

Verna Gardner and Doris Gamble light a candle for Ms. Gamble's daughter
Dr. Ming Tan

Dr. Ming Tan recently joined the University of South Alabama Mitchell Cancer Institute as assistant professor of oncological sciences and the Vincent F. Kilborn Jr. Research Scholar. Prior to his appointment at USA, he was on faculty at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center at the University of Texas in Houston.

Tan’s research focuses on how cancer tumors behave on a cellular level. Specifically, he is examining signal transduction pathways regulating the malignant behavior of tumor cells. Signal transduction is any process in which a cell converts one type of signal or stimulus into another.

Previously, Tan’s research led to a discovery that is patented - a novel strategy for targeting therapeutics in breast cancer therapy.

Tan earned his medical degree from West China University of Medical Sciences. He earned his doctorate from the University of Texas in Houston and completed his postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, also in Houston.
