USA College of Medicine Welcomes New Pediatric Surgeon

The University of South Alabama College of Medicine is pleased to welcome Dr. Celeste Hollands, associate professor of surgery and director of the division of pediatric surgery.

Prior to joining USA, Hollands served as associate professor of surgery at the State University of New York, in Buffalo, N.Y., where she was also on the faculty for the University at Buffalo Center for Advanced Technology in Biomedical and Bioengineering. Her clinical practice was at the Women's and Children's Hospital of Buffalo where she served as director of the Miniature Access Surgery Center and director of trauma. Previously, she served as assistant professor of surgery and as chief of pediatric surgery at Louisiana State University in Shreveport, La.

 

Hollands has been principle investigator of several high-profile research programs, including research that led to Food and Drug Administration approval of the Zeus Robotic Surgical Systems. She also received grant funding from the Association of Women’s Surgeon’s Foundation and Ethicon Endosurgery for development of pediatric robotic surgical procedures.

Hollands earned her undergraduate and medical degrees from USA. She completed her general surgery residency at the Graduate Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pa. Hollands completed a fellowship in pediatric trauma at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and a fellowship in pediatric surgery at Miami Children's Hospital, Miami, Fla.

Hollands' special interests include advanced laparoscopic and thoracoscopic surgery as well as surgical education. She serves on several national and international committees related to these interests.
